Christian Horner Admits McLaren’s Dominance at Zandvoort: ‘Nothing Secure’ in F1 Title Race
Christian Horner: McLaren's Performance on Another Level | Title Race Still Uncertain
Red Bull team principal Christian Horner concedes that McLaren's performance at Zandvoort was exceptional.
Christian Horner, the head of the Red Bull team, stated that McLaren's speed was on another level at the Dutch Grand Prix in Formula 1.
Max Verstappen initially took the lead from Lando Norris at the beginning, but Norris managed to recover and ultimately secured a commanding victory for his second career win at Zandvoort.
On Lap 18, Norris unexpectedly overtook Verstappen and then managed to regain his position with remarkable speed. By the time he crossed the finish line, the British driver had pulled ahead by almost 23 seconds, securing a significant victory over Verstappen.
Horner conceded that Red Bull was unable to match McLaren's speed.
He mentioned to Sky Sports, "Congratulations to McLaren and Lando. Their vehicle performed on an entirely different level today."
"We gave it our all. Max turned his second-place start into a lead, but it was clear that their speed was on another level. There's a lot we need to improve."
"We've gained many important insights over the weekend, making it quite valuable. Checo delivered a strong performance. Now, it's crucial to reflect on the events here, mitigate the impact with a second-place finish, and aim for a comeback in Monza."
When questioned about whether Red Bull has any planned updates to help them bounce back after five races without a win, Horner responded: "We need to identify where we're falling short. This weekend has taught us a great deal."
"However, it's clear that their speed on this track was exceptional. We need to figure out how to enhance our car's performance."
Norris has reduced Verstappen's advantage in the championship to 70 points, and McLaren is now trailing Red Bull, the current world champions, by only 30 points in the constructors' standings.
"The speed they showed today… nothing is guaranteed," Horner acknowledged.
"We still maintain a solid advantage in the drivers' standings. However, in the constructors' championship, we've lost another significant number of points today."
"We will need to take action, and I am sure we have the resources and capability to handle it."
