Charles Leclerc Labels British GP ‘Worse Than a Nightmare’ as Ferrari’s Struggles Continue
Charles Leclerc describes the F1 British Grand Prix as "even worse than a nightmare" as his string of poor performances persists. "It's extremely difficult, extremely difficult; I can't really find the words to express it…"
Charles Leclerc has characterized his performance at the F1 British Grand Prix as "even more dreadful than a nightmare," reflecting on his ongoing struggles since his victory at the Monaco Grand Prix.
Leclerc missed out on earning points yet again due to a poorly timed change to intermediate tires that didn't work out.
Among the initial drivers to switch to intermediate tires were the Ferrari driver, Sergio Perez, and Esteban Ocon.
After eight laps, the rain began to pour heavily, causing Leclerc to be overtaken by the time intermediate tires were necessary.
Looking back on the choice to switch to intermediate tires, Leclerc shared with reporters at Silverstone, where Crash.net is covering the event: "It was definitely the wrong call. I'll review the decision, considering the message I received and the information I had at the time, it seemed like the right choice since it was raining heavily."
"I was informed that the rain would be intense, so I paused in preparation, but the downpour actually arrived 8 or 9 laps later. This marked the end of our race, which was extremely frustrating. It's becoming a trend—another weekend to put behind us."
Following his victory in his hometown race in Monaco, Leclerc has only managed to earn points on one occasion, which has significantly diminished his chances of competing for the F1 championship.
"It's extremely challenging, and I'm struggling to find the right words to describe it. The last four races have been more than just a nightmare, so I'm hopeful that we'll bounce back soon," he commented.
"On days like this, it's tough to find any positives. I just want to regroup with the team, review our decision-making processes, and understand why things didn’t go our way today."
Leclerc has faced bad luck, and Ferrari has fallen behind Mercedes in the Formula 1 rankings.
The recent update they implemented caused significant instability and severe bouncing during high-speed operations.
The bouncing issue was so significant that Ferrari decided to switch back to their previous car model for the Silverstone race.
"We're currently facing a challenging scenario," he stated. "While the upgrade delivered the anticipated results, it also caused significant bouncing at high speeds. Given the nature of this track, we concluded that it was wiser to opt for slightly lower performance for the sake of greater consistency, and I believe it was the correct decision."
"Moving ahead, we will examine the data from both packages to determine if there's anything unclear about the new one."
