Charles Leclerc Anticipates ‘Extremely Positive’ Impact of Lewis Hamilton’s Arrival at Ferrari for F1 2025
Charles Leclerc discusses the potential influence Lewis Hamilton could bring to Ferrari when he joins the team in the 2025 F1 season.
Charles Leclerc thinks that Lewis Hamilton joining Ferrari in the 2025 F1 season will be very beneficial.
Seven-time world champion Hamilton is set to make a historic move in Formula 1 by switching from Mercedes to the Italian team with a multi-year contract starting next season.
Leclerc is thrilled about the opportunity to compete directly with F1’s most accomplished driver using identical cars. He believes it will be "extremely interesting" to gain insights from the 39-year-old, whom the Monegasque racer regards as "one of the best in history".
"Of course, it's incredibly positive," Leclerc mentioned on the Beyond the Grid podcast in response to a question about the effect Hamilton joining Ferrari would have.
"When a champion of Lewis's caliber joins a team, it inspires and energizes every member of the group."
"The primary beneficial impact on Ferrari will be the fresh perspective and extensive experience he brings from Mercedes, introducing a new approach and vision that will undoubtedly advantage the team."
"In my opinion, it will be incredible to share the same car with the most accomplished driver in F1 history. This presents a unique opportunity for me to learn from one of the greatest, while also serving as a significant challenge and motivation to outperform Lewis and demonstrate my own abilities."
Hamilton will become Leclerc’s third partner in seven years at Ferrari, succeeding the likes of multiple world champions Sebastian Vettel and Carlos Sainz. Leclerc consistently outshone Vettel over their two-year stint together and has generally maintained an edge over Sainz.
When questioned about his emotions if he managed to surpass Hamilton while driving the same car, Leclerc replied, “I’m not sure, and to be honest, it’s not something I’m considering at this point.”
"I aim to concentrate on my own performance and be the best I can be when he arrives. Of course, I strive to be at my best every time I’m on the track, but with Lewis joining the team, he will certainly set a high standard. Therefore, it’s crucial for me to perform at my highest level, and then we'll see what happens."
"I'll put in my maximum effort, he'll do the same, and then we'll find out the outcome. Afterward, I can share how it feels if I succeed."
Leclerc mentioned that he has devoted more time this year to becoming acquainted with Hamilton.
"Everything is relative, but within the paddock, he's certainly one of the drivers we've talked about the most lately, particularly in terms of our shared interests in music and fashion," he stated.
“It was beneficial to discuss this topic specifically, but we haven’t spent a lot of time together outside of those discussions.”
"That will naturally occur when he becomes part of the team, as we'll have additional responsibilities off the track, allowing us to become better acquainted."
