**”Carlos Sainz Holds F1 Market Hostage as He Awaits Mercedes and Red Bull Opportunities”**
Carlos Sainz is "on standby" for potential opportunities with Mercedes and Red Bull
"Sainz is once again a possible candidate…"
According to reports, Carlos Sainz is postponing his decision regarding his future plans, as he aims to secure a chance with either Mercedes or Red Bull.
The unemployed Sainz seemed to be out of options with those two teams, as Mercedes focused on Andrea Kimi Antonelli, and Red Bull extended Sergio Perez's contract.
Ferrari's Sainz, set to be replaced by Lewis Hamilton in 2025, is delaying market decisions as he considers his next move.
Craig Slater from Sky Sports News commented on the open Mercedes position for the upcoming season, stating, "Sainz could be a contender once again."
Several months ago, I mentioned that Sainz had decided not to join Mercedes because he wanted to have his future sorted out by this time.
"Mercedes requested to postpone it until a later date in the year."
Carlos Sainz is currently in a holding pattern, not only because he is eyeing a potential opportunity with Mercedes, but also due to the possibility that a position may become available at Red Bull, given Sergio Perez's ongoing difficulties.
"In the last six Formula 1 races, he has accumulated fewer points with the top-performing car than Nico Hulkenberg has managed to score in just the last two races with a less competitive car."
Last weekend at Silverstone, Mercedes chief Toto Wolff gave a significant indication that Sainz was back in his considerations, after having previously been dismissed.
“It’s similar to what Bernie mentioned: last week I had one viewpoint, and this week I have another,” Wolff stated.
Young sensation Antonelli, whom Wolff has consistently praised while searching for Hamilton's successor, may not make it to F1 next season after all.
"Mercedes plans to proceed cautiously with him now," Slater stated.
“He enjoyed a more successful weekend, clinching victory in the F2 sprint race at Silverstone.
“However, they prefer to delay that for now.”
This season, Sainz has secured victories in Formula 1 races, and he also achieved wins last year when Red Bull was leading the field.
In 2025, his remaining three choices include Sauber, Williams, and Alpine.
However, he has not yet agreed to join any of those teams.
Due to this, other market participants cannot guarantee their future prospects.
Valtteri Bottas and Guanyu Zhou face uncertain prospects regarding their future in racing.
Zhou expressed his annoyance with the delays caused by Sainz and the resulting consequences.
