Broken Rib Revelation: Oscar Piastri Blames Poorly-Fitted Race Seat for Injury Amid F1 Triumph
Oscar Piastri attributes his rib injury to an improperly-fitted Formula 1 race seat.
Oscar Piastri provides further details on his surprising injury.
Oscar Piastri claims that an improperly adjusted F1 race seat led to his rib injury.
During the summer break, the McLaren driver disclosed an X-ray that indicated he had suffered an unspecified injury earlier in the season.
Piastri managed to secure his inaugural F1 grand prix victory in Hungary despite having a broken rib, which he disclosed later.
He has now alleged that his racing seat was the reason.
"At the beginning of the year, you set up the seat, but occasionally you don't get it quite right," remarked Piastri at Zandvoort before the F1 Dutch Grand Prix this weekend.
"Certain circuits don't reveal it. However, transitioning from Barcelona to Austria and then to Silverstone… these are quite demanding tracks."
"It was a minor stress area that finally failed."
"Everything is fine now. We've replaced the seat and repaired it right away. So, everything is back to normal."
Piastri commented on his injury, stating, “The scan was conducted the day following the Silverstone event, but the injury had undoubtedly occurred prior to Silverstone.”
This indicates that he competed in three Grand Prix races despite being injured.
Adjustments have been implemented to reduce any remaining discomfort he might be experiencing.
Piastri mentioned that they had figured out potential adjustments for the seat.
"Despite the injury, the discomfort significantly decreased after we made some adjustments."
"Even after driving in Budapest and Spa, the situation was not deteriorating; in fact, it was improving."
McLaren aim to seize control from Mercedes at the Dutch Grand Prix, as Mercedes has triumphed in three of the last four races.
McLaren remains confident that they possess the quickest car in Formula 1 as they strive to catch up with Red Bull.
