Behind the Scenes: Lewis Hamilton and F1 Drivers Take the Spotlight in Brad Pitt’s Upcoming ‘F1’ Movie
Unveiled: Lewis Hamilton and all F1 drivers' roles in Brad Pitt's upcoming film
Lewis Hamilton and the entire roster of F1 drivers are set to appear in Brad Pitt's movie
Each driver will have a role in the forthcoming F1 film starring Brad Pitt.
Naturally, Lewis Hamilton took on the role of executive producer, contributing to the project's authenticity.
New information has emerged about his significant role in the film, which will be titled ‘F1’.
Director Joseph Kosinski mentioned to Deadline that this individual was the initial person he reached out to three years back.
"I realized that having someone on the team who experiences this daily would be crucial for achieving authenticity."
"Lewis has been an outstanding collaborator; he joins Zoom calls with me between his races to meticulously review the script, examining each detail, corner by corner and tire compound by tire compound, to ensure accuracy in every aspect."
"Moreover, he contributes to the creative aspects and the storyline."
The film showcases Formula 2 vehicles that have been altered to resemble the latest generation of Formula 1 cars, with modifications carried out by Mercedes.
Producer Jerry Bruckheimer commented, "It truly begins with Lewis."
“Starting with Lewis, we moved on to Mercedes, and from Mercedes, we got the car. If you tackle it correctly, it's not as challenging as it seems.
"After that, we approached Stefano Domenicali, the CEO of the Formula One Group, as well as FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem. We also spoke with the leaders of each team."
"We have spoken to every driver to inform them about our plans. We have also had discussions with nearly everyone involved in Formula 1."
Bruckheimer emphasized the importance of storytelling, stating that delivering a compelling and emotional narrative is always the main focus. He recalled his initial discussions with Lewis, who pointed out that no film has truly depicted the experience of being inside a Formula 1 car. This has since become a key objective: to immerse the audience in these remarkable vehicles.
Brad Pitt portrays Sonny Hayes, an experienced racer who is lured back to the track to pursue his aspirations.
The film captured scenes at several real-life Formula 1 races, such as the one at Silverstone both last weekend and the previous year.
A year ago, Pitt took to the track to film important scenes for the movie, driving between actual F1 sessions and in full view of the spectators.
Just one week prior, he gained attention for participating in post-race interviews with the F1 drivers. While the other drivers were sharing their emotions, Pitt was in character, acting.
Consequently, actual F1 drivers will appear in the movie.
“They are indeed portraying their real selves,” Kosinski mentioned.
"We're immersing ourselves into this universe, so the characters in these races [in the movie] are true to who they are."
"We're the eleventh team in an outstanding lineup of competitors, placing us at the rear of the pack."
"We watch the drivers during the race and look forward to meeting them outside of it too."
Bruckheimer mentioned that the drivers are selected due to their exceptional skills, as F1 requires them to be outstanding. Additionally, they have charisma and good looks, which are important since they represent a brand.
"They're just like movie stars; the parallels to our own world are striking."
"Our goal is to evoke emotion in the audience. Take *Top Gun: Maverick* for example; despite all the impressive aerial sequences and the fantastic work by Joe, without a compelling emotional narrative, people wouldn't have queued up to watch it, or seen it multiple times. We're aiming to achieve a similar effect here."
The film titled 'F1' is set to premiere in June 2025.
