Angela Cullen’s Unexpected Comeback: From F1 Exit to New Horizons with IndyCar
Angela Cullen shares her unexpected comeback to motorsport following her separation from Lewis Hamilton in Formula 1.
Angela Cullen discusses her fresh position in IndyCar after departing from Formula 1 at the beginning of 2023.
Angela Cullen has confessed that she didn't anticipate a comeback to motorsports after parting ways with Lewis Hamilton last year.
Cullen played a crucial role within Hamilton’s close-knit team, serving as his physiotherapist.
She frequently appeared alongside Hamilton during race weekends, serving as a member of the seven-time world champion’s support crew.
Nevertheless, they went their separate ways at the beginning of the 2023 Formula 1 season.
Since that time, Cullen has been spotted in the IndyCar paddock, collaborating with his compatriot Marcus Armstrong.
In a discussion featured on IndyCar's official YouTube channel, Cullen provided insights into her latest project following her departure from F1.
"I believed I was distancing myself from motorsports when I exited Formula 1," she explained. "In fact, I had retired and took a break last year. However, I later got in touch with Marcus Armstrong and began assisting him with mental skills and other supportive tasks."
"We share a lot of the same principles. Both of us are highly motivated and competitive, and I was thrilled to discover that he had those same traits when I first met him."
"That's how we got in touch, and he asked if I'd like to attend a race. I enthusiastically agreed."
IndyCar stands as the premier motorsport series in the United States, featuring several former Formula 1 drivers like Romain Grosjean and Marcus Ericsson among its competitors.
Cullen enjoys being involved in the IndyCar community and has remained active in it since initially teaming up with Armstrong.
"IndyCar really captivated me," she mentioned. "It's incredibly enjoyable. Therma didn't have any spectators, which was quite amazing, yet I still became infatuated with it."
"The racing is astonishing, the drivers are exceptional, and I was deeply impressed by the skill of everyone in the paddock – so I came and decided to stay."
