Alpine Dismisses F1 Sale Rumors Amid On-Track Struggles: ‘No Way We’re Giving Up,’ Says Renault CEO
Alpine denies plans to sell their F1 team: “We’re not giving up”
Alpine has dismissed rumors suggesting they are considering selling their Formula 1 team.
Luca de Meo, the CEO of Renault, has refuted claims that the French company might offload their Formula 1 team despite circulating rumors.
Alpine has faced challenges with their on-track performance in 2024, managing to secure only two points in the first eight races.
This places them in ninth position in the constructors' standings, with Sauber being the only team behind them.
Although Alpine is a factory team, they have not managed to capitalize on their encouraging performance from 2022, where they secured fourth place, finishing ahead of McLaren.
Numerous '100-race strategies' or 'Five-year strategies' have not been successful for the team based in Enstone.
As expected, there has been a lot of talk about Renault potentially selling their team, especially with entities like Andretti eager to join the sport.
Nonetheless, de Meo has dismissed the notion of 'surrendering'.
"I want to be very clear about this. We have no intention of quitting," de Meo stated to Autocar. "That’s not the way I operate."
"We have no intention of selling any portion of this item. Financially, we are secure. Numerous individuals have been making offers, and then they discuss it publicly."
"We have no interest in that. It would be foolish, and I refuse to proceed."
De Meo remains optimistic that Alpine can improve, asserting that the team has Renault's complete support.
"Alpine is expected to be one of the strongest teams in Formula 1, given that it is supported by the Renault Group," he stated.
"At the moment, I don't believe we merit being considered a leading team. However, we're not participating in F1 just to observe, so we must put in substantial effort."
"Yes, we've had our share of errors. That's part of the process. However, I believe focusing on F1 as a central element for Alpine and choosing blue for the car to symbolize a unique automotive heritage is the right decision."
"This brand is completely authentic, as it has consistently faced competition. However, there is significant room for improvement, and I don't want to let this chance slip by."
