Alpine Appoints 36-Year-Old Oliver Oakes as F1 Team Principal, Second Youngest in History
Alpine appoints Oliver Oakes as their new F1 team principal.
Oakes is now the second youngest team principal in the history of Formula 1.
Alpine has revealed that Oliver Oakes will be taking on the role of their new F1 team principal.
The British individual is set to begin his position with Alpine after the summer hiatus, succeeding Bruno Famin, whose resignation was revealed during the Belgian Grand Prix.
In 2015, Oakes established Hitech Grand Prix, a UK-based team that has been actively participating in leading single-seater racing competitions such as Formula 2 and Formula 3, which are direct pathways to Formula 1.
At age 36, Oakes has become the second-youngest team principal in the history of Formula 1. Christian Horner still holds the record as the youngest ever, having been appointed to head Red Bull in 2005 at the age of 31.
Oakes expressed his deep gratitude to Luca de Meo and Flavio Briatore for giving him the chance to steer the BWT Alpine F1 Team towards becoming competitive again.
The group is composed of skilled individuals and has outstanding resources, making me certain that we can achieve a lot in the rest of the season and in the future. I am eager to begin after the summer vacation.
Oakes will be accountable to Luca de Meo, the CEO of Renault Group.
"We are delighted to have Oli join our team and to see him become one of the youngest Team Principals in the history of this sport," stated de Meo.
The team is focused on achieving long-term success, which is underscored by the promotion of Oli to a senior position. We are eager to leverage his enthusiasm, energy, and passion for racing to instill that attitude throughout the entire team.
Alpine advisor Flavio Briatore expressed his joy, saying, “I’m thrilled that we’ve successfully brought Oli Oakes on board for our Formula 1 initiative. Oli possesses remarkable talent and has an impressive history of leadership and achievements in the racing world.”
"This transition into his new position showcases our confidence in our team and the potential of emerging talents. I am enthusiastic about collaborating with him to improve our standings and secure victories."
