Alex Marquez Denies Deliberate Crash Allegations After Aragon MotoGP Incident with Francesco Bagnaia
Alex Marquez has issued a statement saying he would never intentionally collide with another rider. He firmly denies claims that he purposely came into contact with Francesco Bagnaia, stressing that such actions are against his nature and the ethos of the sport.
Alex Marquez has issued a response after coming across certain remarks following the Aragon MotoGP incident with Francesco Bagnaia on Sunday.
The two riders were in a serious crash as Bagnaia tried to overtake the Gresini competitor for third position, following Marquez's wide turn.
The FIM Stewards concluded that no additional measures were necessary as they found that neither rider was primarily at fault.
However, Marquez appears displeased with Bagnaia's remarks, which imply that the Gresini racer maintained the throttle instead of steering clear of a collision.
Bagnaia shared with MotoGP.com that right when he approached the next turn, specifically turn 13, he could hear the other rider accelerating. It was clear to him that the rider was attempting to make contact.
"I wanted to examine the data… He maintained a throttle position of 60 percent open and 40 percent closed up until the moment he crashed. This behavior is quite unusual for a rider, in my opinion."
Marquez shared a post on social media on Monday.
"Having reviewed certain statements, I would like to clarify the following points:"
"I would never intentionally collide with another rider, and I refuse to accept any accusations of doing so. Such actions go against my principles and the very essence of this sport."
"The conversation I had with Pecco yesterday is what matters most to me, and for my part, the matter is resolved."
"It's now time for me to relax and rejuvenate so that I can be in peak condition for Misano."
Both Marquez and Bagnaia were lucky to escape major injuries and are set to return to the track at Misano this weekend.
In the Aragon race, Marc Marquez, who is both Alex's teammate and brother, took first place. Meanwhile, Jorge Martin finished in second, which has given him a 23-point advantage over Bagnaia in the standings.
