Brad Binder’s Rolling Burnout and Jack Miller’s Last-Lap Drama: A Thrilling Weekend at MotoGP Aragon
Brad Binder exclaimed, "I did a rolling burnout again!" Meanwhile, Jack Miller mentioned he was "nipped by Rins."
Brad Binder shared, "I came up with a solid strategy last night to avoid spinning out at the start…"
Brad Binder had his most successful MotoGP weekend since the start of the season in Qatar, achieving 4th and 6th place finishes at Aragon.
This was true even though he veered off course in both races, with his seventh-place finish being on the more favorable side of a messy starting lineup.
Binder trailed rookie Pedro Acosta during the middle part of the race, turning into a contest for third place after Alex Marquez and Francesco Bagnaia collided with 5 laps remaining.
However, Acosta remained just beyond grasp.
"I came up with an excellent strategy last night to avoid losing traction at the start, and I executed another rolling burnout just like I did yesterday!" Binder said with a smile.
"I navigated through the field and overtook several competitors. It was challenging to avoid errors as the front tire was overheating while trailing others until the final segment of the race."
"I attempted to gain time by accelerating out of the corners since I couldn't enter them quickly due to the front tire overheating. However, this strategy backfired in the end as the left side of the tire wore out completely."
“I put in my utmost effort to overtake Pedro, but there was simply no way from behind!”
"Aside from that, we took several positive strides this weekend. We experimented with the bike's balance, and it appeared to be effective over the duration of the race."
Teammate Jack Miller had a strong start, moving up from 15th on the grid to 8th place by the conclusion of the first lap. However, the Australian quickly encountered issues with rear tire traction.
After being overtaken by Alex Rins in the final lap and losing the ninth position, he, along with two other riders, was handed a 16-second penalty post-race for tyre pressure violations, which resulted in him finishing 15th.
"This race felt really long," Miller commented. "The track conditions changed once again. It was mostly dirty throughout the weekend but felt more slippery today."
"I gave it my all. It was challenging to manage the [medium] rear tire and I experienced a major highside incident while exiting the final turn."
"I found my pace and worked to maintain it. There were several challenges transitioning from the edge to the center of the tire, but I managed to finish the race."
"There were no errors during the race, but I found it difficult to keep up with the leaders. We'll continue to put in the effort."
"Glad to finish in the top ten, but Rins overtook me on the back straight during the final lap. I was trying my best to be accurate, but I didn't get enough speed, allowing him to pass me."
“We will return to Misano.”
This weekend, KTM will have a total of five riders as test rider Pol Espargaro joins as a wild-card entry.
Team manager Francesco Guidotti mentioned, "Now we head to Misano with an eye on the upcoming test and Pol's wildcard, which should provide us with some assistance moving forward."
The initial Misano MotoGP event will commence with Binder trailing Acosta by three points, as Acosta currently occupies the fifth position in the world championship standings.
Miller, who may be formally announced as a Pramac Yamaha rider at the team's home races in Italy, currently sits in 15th place, just three points behind Monster Yamaha's Fabio Quartararo.
