Adrian Newey’s Potential Move to Ferrari: Ex-McLaren Insider Reveals Why Barriers No Longer Exist
Former McLaren teammate asserts Adrian Newey is heading to Ferrari
Old issues with Ferrari won't hinder Adrian Newey anymore, says former associate
According to a former associate, Adrian Newey might be able to surpass obstacles that had previously prevented him from joining Ferrari.
Jo Ramirez is an experienced member of the F1 community who spent four years working with Newey at McLaren.
He claims that Newey's previous hesitation to relocate to Italy permanently would no longer prevent him from joining Ferrari.
Ramirez mentioned to Mundo Deportivo that he doesn't believe retirement is in the cards for him.
"I envision him working with Ferrari, because achieving success in any role within Formula 1 means you must also succeed with Ferrari."
"Ferrari is the most prominent team in Formula 1, so why wouldn't you take the chance if it arises? It's not about the financial aspect since he already possesses more wealth than he could ever need."
"The challenge might arise if he needs to move to Italy, as he is content living in the UK."
"However, the situation is different now. You have the option to work from home, and you will have access to your private plane two or three times a week for commuting. He was capable of managing that."
"I haven't discussed it with him, but I did see him at the historic Monaco Grand Prix and we had a conversation, although he didn't mention anything about it."
“He’s going to keep going, but his destination is unknown.”
During his tenure at McLaren, Newey crafted two championship-winning vehicles for Mika Hakkinen, collaborating with Ramirez.
In 2005, he became a part of Red Bull, where he solidified his status as the premier designer of F1 cars, crafting the vehicles that led to Sebastian Vettel's and later Max Verstappen's dominance.
However, Newey will leave Red Bull at the beginning of 2025, sparking a frenzy among teams vying for his services.
According to CEO Zak Brown, the former team McLaren is not competing, but there are reports that Ferrari and Aston Martin have shown interest.
According to Ramirez, he is an excellent individual who has a deep understanding of what is necessary for a race car to achieve high speeds.
"He is similar to Ayrton Senna in being highly demanding. When he decides to do something, he goes through with it."
"However, he is the kind of person who, when you suggest an idea, pays attention and considers it."
"Adrian always pays attention to what you say; when the advice is sound, he adopts it, and if it's not, he disregards it. Nevertheless, he always listens."
"He's a nice person. He strolls through the paddock by himself, almost unnoticed, with humility. He is brilliant."
