Adrian Newey’s Astonishing $100M Move to Aston Martin: Inside the Deal that Shook Formula 1
Assertive statement that Adrian Newey's $100 million agreement with Aston Martin is “concluded”
Former Red Bull racer asserts Adrian Newey's future plans are arranged
An ex-Red Bull racer has alleged that Adrian Newey and Aston Martin have decided to collaborate.
Robert Doornbos, who was the backup and trial driver for Red Bull in 2006, currently serves as a public speaker and an 'F1 commentator'.
He has confidently declared that the future of Newey, the departing chief technical officer of Red Bull, is already determined.
Doornbos commented on Ferrari's inability to secure the technological mastermind, stating: "Newey had steep requirements."
He aimed for a paycheck twice as large as his earnings at Red Bull and more authority over the technical team.
"The demands exceeded what Ferrari's team leader, Frederic Vasseur, could accept, leading to the collapse of the talks."
Doornbos noted, “An unexpected new challenger appeared on the scene: Aston Martin.
"Under the leadership of Lawrence Stroll, Aston Martin is ambitiously striving to be in the running for the championship within a five-year timeframe. Currently in their third year, it's crucial for them to make major progress in the upcoming two years."
"Securing a unique partnership with Honda for the 2026 engine supply transforms them into a works team, with Stroll pouring a billion dollars into realizing his dream of clinching the championship."
"Having secured two-time title winner Fernando Alonso and made overtures to Max Verstappen, their goal is to recruit the top talents in the field."
"Nonetheless, securing Newey was of utmost importance to Aston Martin, and the agreement has now been concluded."
Projected to receive a $100 million compensation over a three-year period, double what he made at Red Bull, Newey will play a significant role in technical decision-making.
Aston Martin, having finished its cutting-edge manufacturing plant last year, probably drew him in with its sophisticated technology, such as the newly installed wind tunnel. An official statement is anticipated in September.
Aston Martin has not provided any evidence to support Doornbos' assertion.
In a discussion with Sky Sports in April, team leader Mike Krack refuted claims that the team had proposed an "astronomical" deal to Newey.
Newey is set to leave Red Bull at the beginning of next year, allowing him to significantly impact the 2026 vehicle design for any future employer.
McLaren's chief, Zak Brown, has declared the team a non-contender, indicating that Aston Martin and Ferrari are the most probable options.
Doornbos collaborated with Newey in his role as a reserve and test driver for Red Bull for a year.
"Looking back at my time with Red Bull in 2006, when Adrian came on board, I remember the doubts circulating in the paddock regarding our team's dedication to actual racing, given our image as a 'party team' more focused on business profits than on winning races," he had mentioned before.
Adrian's entrance marked a pivotal moment, introducing a combination of meticulous accuracy and an unwavering determination to push boundaries, characteristics that eventually shaped the team's ethos and achievements.
I first crossed paths with Adrian back in 2006/2007, a time when testing had no constraints. It was an incredible phase for me, being a development driver, as I geared up for my first appearance as a Grand Prix racer.
Adrian embraced a distinct strategy, always striving to expand the limits of what could be achieved under the sport's rules, frequently starting with just a simple drawing.
"This unconventional approach frequently involved challenging the limits that other engineers and teams considered unachievable."
