Adrian Newey Turns Down Ferrari: Aston Martin and McLaren Lead the Race for F1 Design Maestro
Adrian Newey likely to reject Ferrari as Aston Martin and McLaren make progress?
Reports suggest it is becoming "more apparent" that Adrian Newey will not join Ferrari after his departure from Red Bull.
According to reports, Adrian Newey is expected to turn down a major move to Ferrari in favor of joining either Aston Martin or McLaren.
According to Motorsport Italy, the renowned Formula 1 designer has "distanced himself from the Scuderia" and is now "considering proposals from British teams" as he "prefers to remain in the UK".
According to Motorsport Italy, the journey to Maranello has become quite challenging. Aston Martin and McLaren have surpassed Ferrari in the competition to hire Newey, with Aston Martin currently said to be in the lead.
Aston Martin's attempt to attract Newey, who plans to depart from Red Bull in early 2025, has been ongoing for some time. Reports suggest that Lawrence Stroll presented Newey with a highly attractive contract offer in March. According to Autosport, the British team intensified their efforts to secure the 65-year-old's services by arranging a discreet tour of their advanced new facility at Silverstone.
Adrian Newey has been strongly rumored to join Ferrari and potentially collaborate with seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton. However, according to Motorsport Italy, Newey is now expected to decide between returning to Aston Martin or rejoining McLaren, where he was employed from 1997 to 2005.
According to an Italian news outlet, Ferrari has initiated preliminary discussions with Newey but is hesitant to engage in a competitive bidding process for him. The report also mentions that Newey is likely to make a final decision by the end of September.
This is connected to recent remarks Newey made during an interview with Sky Sports.
When questioned about whether he would decide on his future by autumn or winter, Newey responded: "Yes, that's definitely the goal. By that time, I will need to have made up my mind."
Adrian Newey's old schoolmate, Jeremy Clarkson, revealed during the British Grand Prix last weekend that he was looking for a house in Oxfordshire instead of Italy.
"Would you like an exclusive story? I have information that Adrian Newey is looking for a house in Oxfordshire rather than Maranello," Clarkson informed a Viaplay TV presenter while on the grid at Silverstone.
