Adrian Newey Tug-of-War: Aston Martin and Alpine Battle for F1’s Top Designer as Hamilton Link-Up Shelved
Two groups are competing to hire Adrian Newey, but a collaboration with Lewis Hamilton has been dismissed.
Recent reports indicate that two teams are at the forefront of the effort to secure Adrian Newey's services.
Reports indicate that Adrian Newey and Lewis Hamilton will not be joining forces at Ferrari next year.
The competition to secure Newey's expertise remains intense within the F1 paddock, but according to F1.com, Ferrari is no longer in contention.
Ferrari were initially considered the top contenders to secure Newey, the departing chief technology officer from Red Bull.
It would have led to a collaboration with Hamilton, a partnership Newey has previously expressed regret over not experiencing.
However, while Hamilton is set to don red in 2025, the report indicates that Newey does not appear to be moving to Italy.
Duel between two teams
Aston Martin and Alpine are reportedly competing to secure Newey for their F1 team.
McLaren had already excluded themselves from consideration, and Mercedes was never a major contender.
According to F1.com, Aston Martin is thought to be at the forefront of the competition at the Italian Grand Prix in Monza this weekend.
Last weekend at Zandvoort, Sky Sports' Martin Brundle posed a playful question to team owner Lawrence Stroll regarding the possibility of hiring Newey, but Stroll quickly dismissed the idea.
However, Stroll has appointed Andy Cowell, previously with Mercedes, as CEO, and Enrico Cardile, formerly of Ferrari, as the chief technical officer.
The appeal of the team is evident, especially with Aston Martin's upcoming Silverstone headquarters and their collaboration with Honda starting in 2026.
However, Aston Martin is up against another prominent figure in Formula 1.
According to F1.com, Flavio Briatore, who has recently taken on the role of executive advisor at Alpine, is enthusiastic about the idea of bringing Newey to Enstone.
Briatore has suggested that achieving the dream of signing the top car designer in F1 history is within reach, stating, "Anything can happen."
Newey being available next year allows him to impact the 2026 car for his new team, providing them with a significant advantage in the development competition.
