Adrian Newey Faces €100m Tug-of-War as Aston Martin and Ferrari Vie for F1 Design Maestro
Adrian Newey has allegedly received a staggering €100 million offer from a leading team aiming to secure his expertise. Reports suggest that Aston Martin is keen to bring Newey on board.
According to reports, Aston Martin has extended an astonishing offer of €100 million (£84 million) over four years to Formula 1 design icon Adrian Newey.
German outlet F1-Insider has stated that Aston Martin is currently leading the race to secure the services of Newey, who has become the most sought-after figure in the F1 paddock following his choice to leave Red Bull.
According to F1-Insider, Ferrari still has a chance to secure Newey's services, despite discouraging reports from Italian media suggesting otherwise.
At the age of 65, he will depart from Red Bull at the beginning of 2025, following nearly twenty years with the team. During his tenure, he was a key figure in achieving all 13 of their world championship victories.
Adrian Newey, often hailed as the best Formula 1 driver ever, has been associated with several teams such as Ferrari, Aston Martin, McLaren, and Williams following the announcement made before the Miami Grand Prix in May.
The departing chief technical officer from Red Bull is anticipated to move to a different Formula 1 team and has announced that he will decide on his next steps before the year concludes.
Adrian Newey confessed that he doesn't frequently read the media, but he does hear about it indirectly. His wife Amanda keeps up with the news and provides him with a brief overview. He acknowledged that the attention is indeed very flattering.
"In the end, my motivation isn't driven by that. Since I was around 10 or 11 years old, my dream was to become a designer in the world of motor racing. I've successfully reached that goal, so anything beyond that is just an added perk."
"My true enthusiasm lies in enhancing car performance, particularly for racing vehicles. While other aspects are certainly involved, they aren't what drive my motivation each day."
Ferrari was seen as the probable next step for Newey since he had previously expressed remorse over not having the chance to work for Formula 1's iconic team. However, it seems Aston Martin has recently taken the lead in attracting him.
The Italian publication Gazzetta dello Sport has revealed that contract discussions between Newey and Ferrari have encountered difficulties due to an alleged demand for key engineers to accompany him, a claim that Ferrari has refuted to Crash.net.
Ferrari has not provided any statements regarding potential negotiations to hire Newey.
