Jorge Martin Triumphs at Sachsenring, Extends Championship Lead with Strategic Overtake on Bagnaia
Jorge Martin sets a benchmark: "I was aware Pecco wouldn't anticipate an action"
Jorge Martin: "It was a smart strategy and it paid off. Pecco was heavily guarding during deceleration. At that moment, I realized he wouldn't foresee an action."
Jorge Martin clinched his third consecutive win at Sachsenring, following up on his pair of victories from the previous season with a triumph in the MotoGP sprint race on Saturday.
The frontrunner in the championship increased his lead in the standings to 15 points by surpassing Francesco Bagnaia for the first time since the Catalunya sprint, which was seven races earlier.
"Winning feels great," Martin expressed. "In this scenario, we had the upper hand, and I knew I had to seize the chance. I wasn't in my best shape, facing some difficulties, yet I managed to advance in the rankings.
"Next, I made an effort to maintain a brisk speed while also taking care of both the front and back tyres. Looking ahead, it's going to be an extensive race, but as of now, I'm truly pleased."
Typically excellent at maintaining the lead from the start, Martin was initially knocked down to third position.
However, the Pramac racer, even after altering his strategy, swiftly reclaimed the leading position: "I remained concentrated throughout, but it was necessary to modify my approach. I had one tactic in mind, and then the situation evolved.
"I needed to quickly get ahead because staying behind would have meant falling back. The challenges are always complex.
"We gave it our all and succeeded. We'll make another attempt tomorrow."
Talking about his move past Bagnaia, Martin confessed that he leveraged the element of surprise in his favor.
"Martin commended the strategy, highlighting its intelligence and effectiveness. He noted, 'Pecco was heavily guarding his position during deceleration. That's when I realized he wouldn't anticipate a counteraction."
"My goal for tomorrow is to maintain the lead right from the first turn, as I anticipate he'll be ready to challenge me at any point."
