Zarco and Martin Weigh In: Pramac’s Switch to Yamaha and the Unstoppable Ducati Duo in 2025 MotoGP
Zarco: Pramac ‘beneficial for Yamaha’ | Marquez, Bagnaia ‘unattainable’ in 2025
‘I believe that Marc and Pecco in the leading team next year will be nearly uncatchable and will dominate throughout the year’
Former and current Pramac riders, Johann Zarco and Jorge Martin, believe that the team's transition to Yamaha bikes will be a setback for Ducati in MotoGP next year.
After three years with Pramac, Zarco achieved his first MotoGP win at Phillip Island last year. This season, he has moved to LCR Honda.
The French individual is pleased to observe that the 2025 lineup is more 'balanced' and believes the competition for positions three through ten will be different.
However, he doesn't foresee any contenders stepping up against Ducati's 2025 factory team, which includes reigning champion Francesco Bagnaia and newly acquired Marc Marquez.
Zarco mentioned that increasing the number of bikes would benefit the Yamaha project by providing more data and opportunities for development.
"It's beneficial to have an increased number of Japanese motorcycles in the championship, as currently, the European bikes, particularly the Ducatis, possess a significant advantage."
"There should be a slight improvement in balance, and I am optimistic that the Japanese manufacturers will narrow the gap with Ducati."
"I believe that next year, it will be nearly impossible to catch up to Marc and Pecco as they will be excelling throughout the entire year."
"However, there will be alterations from the third to the tenth positions, which will be beneficial."
"I believe that Yamaha enhancing their performance and increasing the number of bikes on the track will compel Honda to implement changes and drive themselves to discover new solutions."
In his debut season in 2021, Martin achieved a historic milestone for Pramac by becoming its first MotoGP winner. Last year, he secured the second position in the championship and, along with Zarco, led Pramac to a remarkable triumph in the team’s championship.
Not chosen for the 2025 factory team, Martin will be moving to Aprilia next year.
"Well, I was already 99% sure at Mugello that Pramac would partner with Yamaha. It's significant news, I believe," he stated.
"What can I say? In my opinion, all the data that Pramac is sharing with the factory is extremely valuable, and Ducati will definitely feel its absence next season."
“Yamaha will greatly benefit from Pramac's support, as having additional bikes on the track will aid in their bike development.”
Pramac has not announced its riders for the 2025 season. Although Fabio di Giannantonio was strongly associated with the team, he is expected to stay with VR46. Consequently, riders such as Miguel Oliveira and Jack Miller, along with Moto2 talents Sergio Garcia and Alonso Lopez, are speculated to be in contention for the factory-spec M1 motorcycles.
It is anticipated that VR46 will receive at least one of the GP25 factory bikes that were originally designated for Pramac next season.
