Zarco and Martin Weigh In on Pramac’s Shift to Yamaha: A New Era for MotoGP Dynamics
Zarco Believes Pramac Partnership Benefits Yamaha | Marquez, Bagnaia Set to Dominate in 2025
"Marc and Pecco, being in the leading team next year, will likely be unbeatable and dominate the entire season," says Zarco.
Former and current Pramac competitors, Johann Zarco and Jorge Martin, believe that the team's transition to using Yamaha equipment will represent a disadvantage for Ducati in the upcoming MotoGP season.
Zarco dedicated three years of his career to Pramac, where his journey led to a much-anticipated first win in MotoGP at Phillip Island the previous year, before making a move to LCR Honda for the current season.
The French individual expresses satisfaction with the more 'even' composition of the 2025 grid and believes that the competition for positions three through ten will evolve.
However, he anticipates that no one will pose a significant threat to Ducati's 2025 team roster, featuring the reigning champion Francesco Bagnaia alongside newcomer Marc Marquez.
"Zarco mentioned, "This will benefit the Yamaha initiative. They require additional motorcycles for development and to gather more data."
Introducing more Japanese motorcycles into the championship is beneficial, as it balances the competition, particularly against the dominance of European motorcycles, especially the Ducatis.
"Thus, we should see an improved equilibrium, and my aspiration is that the Japanese [manufacturers] will narrow their distance from Ducati.
"I believe that for the upcoming season, Marc and Pecco, being in the leading team, will be virtually unbeatable and they'll dominate throughout the year."
"However, from the third to the tenth spot, there are expected to be several adjustments, which should be positive."
"I also believe that Yamaha's enhancements and their efforts to increase the number of bikes they have competing will motivate Honda to implement modifications and strive to discover new solutions."
Martin, achieving a historic milestone for Pramac by becoming its inaugural MotoGP victor during his first year in 2021, secured a second-place finish in the championship last season. Alongside Zarco, he contributed to a significant win for Pramac in the team competition.
Martin, who was not selected for the 2025 factory team, is transitioning to Aprilia for the upcoming season.
"Actually, I was pretty much aware of Pramac's move to Yamaha when we were in Mugello, almost fully certain," he remarked. "I believe it's quite significant news."
"How can I put it? The insights Pramac is sharing with the main team are incredibly valuable, and [Ducati] is definitely going to feel the absence of that next season."
"Pramac's support will significantly benefit Yamaha by increasing the number of their bikes on the circuit and aiding in their development."
Pramac has not yet announced its rider lineup for 2025. While Fabio di Giannantonio was strongly rumored to join, it appears he will stay with VR46. This opens potential spots for riders such as Miguel Oliveira and Jack Miller, alongside Moto2 standouts Sergio Garcia and Alonso Lopez, who are speculated to be in the running for the team's high-spec M1 bikes.
It is anticipated that VR46 will receive at least one of the GP25 factory motorcycles originally designated for Pramac in the upcoming season.
