Wilco Zeelenberg to Exit Trackhouse Aprilia at End of 2024, Confirms Davide Brivio at Aragon MotoGP
Davide Brivio has announced that Wilco Zeelenberg will exit Trackhouse Aprilia following the conclusion of the 2024 season, with the confirmation coming during the Aragon MotoGP.
Davide Brivio, who leads the Trackhouse Aprilia team, announced last weekend that Wilco Zeelenberg will be departing from the team once the 2024 season concludes.
Zeelenberg, who initially joined the Trackhouse team when it was first known as the Petronas SRT Yamaha team in 2019, will be departing the satellite Aprilia project. This comes after the team has completed its second season with the Noale brand and its first season under the Trackhouse name.
In an interview with MotoGP.com pit lane reporter Simon Crafar before last Sunday's Aragon MotoGP race at MotorLand, Brivio, who started with Trackhouse at the start of 2024, shared that the decision for Zeelenberg to leave was "very hard" to make. He added that this move is part of the American-owned team's efforts to explore "some different direction".
"We talked about Zeelenberg leaving," said Brivio. "It was a mutual decision. Wilco deserves a lot of recognition for his contributions."
"To be frank, when I got here, I discovered a team that he has assembled over the years. Moreover, the majority of the team will remain unchanged next year, so he deserves significant recognition for what he has established."
"As Trackhouse, we believed that moving forward, we needed to explore a new path. It's unfortunate in some ways, but it's just business in others."
"It's never easy, and reaching this decision has been incredibly challenging."
The future of Zeelenberg remains uncertain at this point. The Dutchman, who once clinched a victory in the 250cc Grand Prix, previously served as the team manager for Jorge Lorenzo and later Maverick Vinales in the factory Yamaha MotoGP garage. In 2019, he transitioned to the Petronas SRT team, taking on the role of team manager.
