Vinales Confident Aprilia Will Overcome Heat Hurdles at Indonesian MotoGP: A Cool Outlook Amidst Climactic Challenges
Maverick Vinales isn't anticipating problems with overheating for Aprilia at the Indonesian MotoGP
"The track conditions are not too challenging temperature-wise"
Maverick Vinales has expressed that he does not expect the overheating challenges that troubled Aprilia racers in the previous year to resurface during MotoGP's upcoming overseas events in Indonesia this weekend.
This weekend, the Indonesian Grand Prix kicks off the first of five international races over the next six weeks, as the 2024 season approaches its peak.
During this period, MotoGP will compete on scorching circuits such as Mandalika, Buriram, and Sepang.
In the previous year, Aprilia motorcycles faced significant overheating challenges that led to discomfort for its riders, an issue that it seems they have not yet been able to overcome.
Vinales mentions that despite the expected high temperatures over the weekend, the design of the Mandalika circuit is unlikely to lead to the recurrence of those problems.
"Truthfully, on this circuit, particularly at Mandalika, the bike doesn't face much thermal strain since you're constantly in a lean," he clarified on Thursday.
"Thus, you're not primarily riding the bike, unlike in Thailand where the roads stretch out for miles."
"In this location, we're not facing those conditions, so it's unlikely we'll experience any discomfort due to the temperature. This is indeed a positive aspect."
Aprilia has faced significant challenges post-summer break, with its performance increasingly lagging behind Ducati's in the latest races.
Following disappointing performances at the Aragon and San Marino Grands Prix, there was a slight uptick in results at the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix, where Vinales secured a sixth-place finish and his teammate, Aleix Espargaro, came in eighth.
Vinales, who secured a podium finish at Mandalika last year, is optimistic that Aprilia has regained the pace they previously lacked with the RS-GP, and he feels positive about maintaining this performance in the upcoming weekend.
"He expressed enthusiasm and assurance, noting the progress seen at Misano which demonstrated a recovery in speed and overall improvement."
"We're truly hopeful about the upcoming weekends."
Naturally, I come here filled with great enthusiasm.
"At this point, I'm keeping my expectations in check until I get a sense of the motorcycle's performance."
"I'm arriving filled with excitement, as I believe in Misano we regained our pace, which is crucial."
"And now, we have the opportunity to maintain that momentum right here."
