Vinales Confident Aprilia Will Dodge Heat Woes at Indonesian GP: ‘Temperature Not Demanding on Mandalika Track
Why Maverick Vinales isn't anticipating heat problems for Aprilia in the Indonesia MotoGP
"The heat here isn't particularly challenging."
Maverick Vinales mentioned that he does not expect the heat problems that troubled Aprilia riders during last year's MotoGP flyaway races to reoccur this weekend in Indonesia.
This weekend, the Indonesian Grand Prix kicks off the first of five international races over the next six weeks as the 2024 season comes to a close.
During that period, MotoGP will compete at scorching circuits such as Mandalika, Buriram, and Sepang.
In the previous year, Aprilia motorcycles faced significant overheating problems that led to physical discomfort for the riders, an issue that still seems unresolved.
Although the weather is expected to be hot this weekend, Vinales believes that the design of the Mandalika track will likely prevent the recurrence of these problems.
"Frankly, on this circuit, particularly in Mandalika, the bike doesn't face a lot of stress from high temperatures because it stays leaned over most of the time," he stated on Thursday.
"So, unlike in Thailand where there are extended straight sections, you don't spend the majority of your time on the bike."
"In this location, we don't experience that issue, so we likely won't have problems with the temperature here. This is definitely a positive thing."
Since the summer break, Aprilia has faced significant challenges, with its performance appearing to fall even further behind Ducati's in recent races.
Following disappointing performances at the Aragon and San Marino Grand Prix races, there was a slight uptick in results during the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix last weekend, where Vinales secured a sixth-place finish and his teammate Aleix Espargaro came in eighth.
Vinales, who secured a podium finish at Mandalika last year, feels that Aprilia has regained the pace it lacked with the RS-GP and is optimistic about maintaining this momentum over the weekend.
"We feel driven and assured after observing the outcome at Misano, noting that we've regained our speed and made progress," he stated.
"We're feeling very positive about the upcoming weekends."
“Absolutely, I come here feeling very motivated.
"Right now, I have no expectations because I need to assess the bike's performance."
"However, I come here with great excitement, believing that we regained our momentum in Misano, which is crucial."
"And now we can keep up this pace here."
