### Verstappen Laments Setup Changes That Hampered Performance in Baku
Max Verstappen admits that adjustments to his Red Bull F1 car ended up making it perform poorly, according to Lewis Larkam in Baku.
Max Verstappen stated that he "suffered the consequences" due to adjustments in the set-up that resulted in his Red Bull F1 car performing "poorly" during the Azerbaijan Grand Prix.
In a dramatic conclusion to the race in Baku, the Red Bull driver secured fifth place. This outcome was due to an incident on the second-to-last lap where Sergio Perez and Carlos Sainz collided, allowing Verstappen to advance by two positions.
Throughout the 51-lap race, Verstappen frequently voiced his dissatisfaction with his Red Bull vehicle. With just three laps remaining, his title contender, Lando Norris, managed to pass him.
Max Verstappen explained to the press, including Crash.net, that the adjustments made during qualifying made the car challenging to handle, which ultimately cost them.
"The vehicle was bouncing significantly, with the tires lifting off the pavement during turns. Without maintaining contact with the road surface, handling becomes extremely challenging."
"We aimed to improve the car with some modifications, but regrettably, our efforts had the opposite effect."
"The general performance has improved with the new floor. However, we made some incorrect choices during the qualifying session, and it cost us."
Verstappen emphasized that he wasn't surprised in the least when Norris overtook him near the end of the race, considering that everything during the event unfolded in the worst possible way for him.
Norris earned an additional point for clocking the fastest lap of the race, trimming Verstappen's championship advantage by three points, bringing it down to 59 points.
When questioned about his frustration over missing the chance to extend his championship lead over Norris, Verstappen responded, “Yes, but you can look at it from a different perspective.”
"I believe they could have performed better, but this is the situation we have."
He commented, "Overall, it's likely a good outcome for me. Naturally, I would have preferred to widen the lead. However, considering how our race went today, I'm content with the result."
