Valtteri Bottas Stipulates Multi-Year Deal for Continuing in F1 Amid Uncertain Future with Audi
Valtteri Bottas highlights a crucial condition for a possible Audi F1 agreement
"I believe, given where I am in my career, that's significant."
Valtteri Bottas is solely focused on staying in Formula 1, provided he secures a contract spanning multiple years.
The future of Bottas in Formula 1 remains uncertain, as the Finnish driver has very few choices available for the 2025 season.
Williams and Alpine have successfully signed Carlos Sainz and Jack Doohan, respectively. Meanwhile, Mercedes is poised to reveal the acquisition of Andrea Kimi Antonelli.
This means Sauber remains his sole choice for the upcoming season.
Sauber is considering various alternatives as they decide on a teammate for Nico Hulkenberg for the 2025 season.
Under the former leadership of Andreas Seidl, it was believed that Bottas had very little opportunity to remain with Audi.
Yet, this choice will presently fall to Mattia Binotto, who began his duties at Hinwil at the start of this month, hailing from Italy.
Before the Italian Grand Prix, where Crash.net is in attendance, Bottas made it clear that he isn't looking for a one-year deal.
Bottas expressed a preference for contracts spanning several years, explaining that a one-year agreement doesn't align with his career prospects, as he anticipates challenges in the following year.
"I don't find that very fascinating. Personally, the key aspect for me is being involved in a straightforward project and possessing a well-defined strategy for the coming years. At this point in my career, I believe that's crucial."
Bottas revealed that discussions with Binotto are ongoing "this week," though an agreement has yet to be finalized.
"The conversations carried on into this week. I visited the factory on Tuesday, and we're advancing," he further mentioned.
"However, our current focus at Monza is on racing, not on signing any contracts. Our priority is to recover from the challenging weekend we've had, with our sights set on making a strong comeback. And then, there's always the upcoming week to look forward to."
The racer, who has claimed victory in 10 grand prix races, is currently not contemplating the possibility of not participating in next year's races, admitting that it's "too early" to explore alternative plans.
He shared, "My choices are few, that's the reality," adding, "Naturally, the idea of exiting Formula 1 has crossed my mind, prompting me to consider the possibility. However, I believe it's premature to contemplate such a move for the upcoming year."
