US Struggles to Curb China’s Accelerating AI Progress Despite Restrictions, Says Washington-Based ITIF Study
The Washington-based think tank, ITIF, suggests that attempts by the US to stifle China's AI development are likely to fail. The significant progress in academia and the strong financial support from the Chinese government have positioned China as a formidable opponent to the US in the field of AI.
Attempts by the United States to curb China's progress in Artificial Intelligence (AI) are likely to fail, according to a recent study by a US research group. This is because China is finding methods to bypass US export restrictions and fostering domestic innovation, thereby swiftly contesting the US supremacy in this technology field.
Initiatives implemented for national security reasons have only achieved "minimal success" in restricting China's progress in AI, as per a study released last month by the Information Technology and Innovation Foundation (ITIF), a non-profit research institution based in Washington.
The study that examined various factors such as scientific research papers, patents, skilled professionals, and infrastructure, determined that China's strong academic base, inventive solutions, and government-supported financial resources are driving the country to pose a significant competition to the U.S. in the field of Artificial Intelligence.
