Trackhouse Aprilia Shake-Up: Davide Brivio Confirms Wilco Zeelenberg’s Departure at End of 2024
Davide Brivio has announced that Wilco Zeelenberg will be departing from Trackhouse Aprilia at the conclusion of 2024, as confirmed during the Aragon MotoGP.
Davide Brivio, the team principal for Trackhouse Aprilia, announced last weekend that Wilco Zeelenberg will be departing from the team once the 2024 season concludes.
Zeelenberg, who started with the Trackhouse team back when it was first known as the Petronas SRT Yamaha team in 2019, will be departing from the satellite Aprilia project. This comes after the team's second season with the Noale brand, and its first season operating under the Trackhouse name.
In a conversation with MotoGP.com pit lane reporter Simon Crafar before last Sunday's Aragon MotoGP race at MotorLand, Brivio, who became part of Trackhouse at the start of 2024, shared that Zeelenberg’s exit was a “very difficult” decision. He mentioned it’s a step in the American-owned team’s effort to pursue a “new direction”.
"We had a conversation about Zeelenberg leaving," Brivio stated. "We collectively made this decision. Wilco deserves significant recognition for his contributions."
"To be frank, when I got here, I discovered a team that he has put together over the years. Most of this team will remain the same next year, so he deserves a lot of recognition for what he has created."
"As Trackhouse, we felt that moving forward, we needed to explore a new path. While it's unfortunate in some ways, it's also a business decision."
"It's never easy, and reaching this decision has been extremely challenging."
The future of Zeelenberg remains uncertain at this point. Previously a victor in the 250cc Grand Prix, the Dutchman held the position of team manager for Jorge Lorenzo and later Maverick Vinales in the factory Yamaha MotoGP team. In 2019, he transitioned to the role of team manager for the Petronas SRT team.
