On the 64th of 70 laps, Russell attempted a maneuver on Piastri at the last turn, but their cars made contact, pushing Russell off the track.
Russell has now fallen to fourth place, trailing behind his Mercedes counterpart, Hamilton.
By the 62nd lap out of 70, Verstappen is further increasing his lead, while Norris starts to focus more on the competitors trailing him.
His colleague Piastri, along with the Mercedes pair, Russell and Hamilton, are closely following him.
Verstappen gets off to an excellent start, quickly distancing himself from Norris. By the lap's conclusion, he has built a two-second lead.
The competition is back on, and there are 12 complete laps remaining to decide the winner in Canada.
During the Safety Car period on the 57th lap
Sainz, Albon, and Perez have all exited the race following their individual incidents, accompanying Leclerc and Sargeant who were already out of the competition.
Under the Safety Car, the Mercedes team members, Russell and Hamilton, opted for a pit stop to change to new slick tires.
Russell has opted for medium tires, while Hamilton has chosen hard tires.
They come back onto the circuit in fourth and fifth positions.
