Thrills and Spills at Aragon: Brad Binder’s Rolling Burnout and Jack Miller’s Last-Lap Battle with Rins
Brad Binder: "I ended up doing a rolling burnout again!" Jack Miller: "Rins managed to overtake me."
Brad Binder: "I devised a solid strategy last night to avoid losing traction at the start…"
Brad Binder had his best MotoGP weekend since the season began in Qatar, achieving 4th and 6th place finishes at the Aragon race.
Despite veering off course in both races, he managed to secure seventh place, which was impressive given the condition of the grid.
During the middle portion of the race, Binder was trailing rookie Pedro Acosta. This competition for position turned into a fight for third place when Alex Marquez and Francesco Bagnaia collided with 5 laps remaining.
However, Acosta remained just beyond grasp.
Binder smiled and said, "Last night, I came up with an excellent strategy to avoid spinning off the line, and I managed to do another rolling burnout just like I did yesterday!"
"I navigated through and overtook several competitors. It was challenging to avoid errors as the front tire was overheating while trailing others up until the final part of the race."
"I attempted to gain time by accelerating out of the corners since entering them at high speed wasn't possible due to the front tire overheating. However, this strategy backfired, and by the end, the left side of the tire was completely worn out."
"I did everything I could to overtake Pedro, but there was no power left in the back!"
"Besides that, we took some genuinely promising strides this weekend. We experimented with the bike's balance, and it appeared to be effective throughout the race."
Jack Miller, a member of the team, made an impressive start by advancing from 15th position on the grid to eighth place by the conclusion of the first lap. However, the Australian rider quickly encountered difficulties with maintaining rear grip.
After finishing behind Alex Rins in ninth place on the final lap, he was one of three racers penalized with a 16-second post-race penalty for tire pressure violations, which pushed him down to 15th place.
"It's been a long race," Miller commented. "The track conditions have varied once more; it was dirty for most of the weekend but felt more slippery today."
"I gave it my all. It was tough to manage the [medium] rear tire, and I experienced a significant highside incident while exiting the final turn."
"I found my pace and focused on maintaining it. There were several challenges when transitioning from the tire's edge to its center, but I managed to finish successfully."
"I made no errors during the race, but I found it difficult to keep pace with the leaders. We will continue to push forward."
"While I'm pleased to finish in the top ten, it was frustrating to get overtaken by Rins on the back straight during the final lap. I was striving for precision, but a poor drive gave him the chance to outpace me."
"We will return to Misano."
Test rider Pol Espargaro will be added as a wild-card entry, bringing the total number of KTM riders to five for this weekend.
“Head to Misano now, keeping in mind the upcoming test and Pol’s wildcard entry, which will benefit us in the future,” stated team manager Francesco Guidotti.
The Misano MotoGP series will kick off with Binder trailing Acosta by three points, with Acosta currently in fifth place in the world championship standings.
Miller, who might be formally announced as a Pramac Yamaha rider at the team's home races in Italy, currently holds 15th place and is three points behind Monster Yamaha's Fabio Quartararo.
