Syngenta’s Expansion in China: Aiming for Food Security and Sustainability through Agricultural Technology
Syngenta, the agricultural powerhouse, is set to expand in China as the country looks towards ensuring food security and sustainability. The company is planning to increase its service center network from approximately 600 to 1,000 by 2028, with the goal of educating a larger number of farmers.
Syngenta Group, a leading global agri-tech company, plans to increase its sales and service network in China by 66% within four years. This move is in line with the country's efforts to meet its goals for food security and sustainability.
Petra Laux, the Chief Sustainability Officer of the Basel-based company in Switzerland, announced that the company aims to increase its service centres for its "modern agricultural platform" in the nation to 1,000 by 2028, a significant jump from the current count of just over 600.
She informed the Post that despite China, with one-fifth of the world's population and only 9% of the cultivable land, there remain significant disparities in productivity, especially in the production of soybeans and corn, when compared to other major agricultural countries.
Simultaneously, it's essential to encourage agricultural methods that aid in protecting biodiversity, enhancing water conservation, and minimizing the release of greenhouse gases.
Due to restrictions in land and water resources, and a desire to enhance their food independence, it's crucial for China to significantly enhance agricultural efficiency. This can be achieved through the use of technology, such as genetically altered seeds and sophisticated crop safeguarding products.
