Marquez dropped to 13th position during the initial lap due to a poor start, which was triggered when his visor tear-off got caught under his bike. Despite this setback, he managed to recover and overtake Jorge Martin.
This week, I'm planning to try my luck with the lottery! 😂 What are the odds! The young man is feeling on top of the world! 🙌❤️ pic.twitter.com/NtJZns8M3Z— Frankie (@frankiecarchedi) October 20, 2024
Crew chief Carchedi explained to TNT Sports that their strategy was to follow closely behind Jorge, conserve the tires as much as they could, and then make a move towards the finish.
The initial lap had a significant impact. The moment he fell in line behind Pecco at Turn 3, it was clear that his riding style had changed compared to how he was riding at the beginning of the weekend.
"In the final three or four laps, his approach to the corners was entirely different."
Pramac's Martin remains at the top of the MotoGP championship standings, even though he didn't secure a victory at Phillip Island after Marquez overtook him.
Carchedi was questioned about whether they anticipated Martin would accept finishing in second place since it strengthened his lead in the championship standings.
Carchedi expressed that their initial reaction was hopeful. "When Marc went by initially, we believed it was an ideal scenario. We hoped that Martin would keep the championship in mind," he remarked.
"However, he kept striving all the way to the finish."
"In wet conditions, it's common for riders to ease up slightly, which can lead to an accident. However, his approach was to maintain his effort all the way through."
In the final moments of the Australian MotoGP, Martin refrained from making a frantic move to overtake Marquez in a bid for victory.
Instead of being cautious because he is leading the championship, Carchedi thinks it was Marquez who discouraged Martin.
“We feel confident as we exit the final turn,” stated Carchedi.
The uncertainty was whether we could maintain our lead until the first turn.
The initial time he tried it, Martin realized that he needed to adjust and consider a different location.
This weekend, impressive video clips of Marc at Turn 3 have surfaced. Not only do they look amazing, but they also showcase his incredible speed.
"He realized that Turn 4 offered the greatest chance."
After the Phillip Island race, Marquez trails championship leader Martin by 79 points, with only three rounds left in the season.
While winning the championship this year might not be possible, Marquez's exceptional performance in Australia serves as a serious warning for 2025, when he will be equipped with the most advanced Ducati equipment.
