Remy Gardner Set for Electrifying Return at Motegi MotoGP with Yamaha Wild-Card Entry
Remy Gardner makes a comeback at the Motegi MotoGP with a wild-card entry
Remy Gardner is set to ride a Yamaha M1 again at the MotoGP event in Japan.
Remy Gardner is set to participate in his third MotoGP race of the year, taking part as a Yamaha wild-card entry in the upcoming Japanese Grand Prix next weekend.
The Australian is filling in once more, this time taking over for test rider Cal Crutchlow. This comes after he stood in for the injured official team member Alex Rins at Sachsenring, followed by substituting for Crutchlow during a wild-card event at Silverstone.
Gardner, a racer for Yamaha in the WorldSBK series, is set to return to Motegi for the first time since he competed there with Tech3 KTM in a single season in 2022.
"Gardner expressed his enthusiasm about competing in Japan, stating that it's a destination he has always appreciated during his Grand Prix racing career. However, he highlighted that racing for a Japanese team in MotoGP in front of the local fans will be an extraordinary experience."
"I'm pleased that Yamaha has invited me to return following my stints at Sachsenring and Silverstone. It seems they believe I contribute positively to their development efforts, so I'm hopeful for a fruitful weekend at Motegi as well.
"I'm heading into a hectic stretch with five races scheduled over the next five weeks, yet since I'm on my bike nearly every weekend as it is, this isn't really anything out of the ordinary for me!"
Gardner secured the 19th position at Sachsenring and the 18th at Silverstone, however, Kazutoshi Seki, who leads the Yamaha Factory Racing Test Team, stressed that the main focus is on developing the motorcycle.
"Seki highlighted that Yamaha is prioritizing motorcycle innovation this year," he mentioned. "The engineering team is putting in significant effort, and I am absolutely certain that this unexpected entry will boost Yamaha's efforts in creating prototype components and enhancing motorcycle capabilities.
"Having already conducted two successful trials of prototype components for the M1 earlier in the year, Remy Gardner's previous experience positions him as a sensible selection to fill in for Cal Crutchlow, who is currently sidelined with an injury."
Crutchlow has been forced to step back due to issues arising from surgery on his right arm, leading Andrea Dovizioso to step in for private testing duties.
Augusto Fernandez is reportedly being considered for a test position with Yamaha for the 2025 season.
