Red Bull’s Strategic Revamp: Horner Unveils Confidence-Boosting Upgrades Ahead of Austin Grand Prix
Red Bull aims to boost assurance with their upgrades for the Austin Formula 1 race, described as "remedies." Christian Horner outlines Red Bull's enhancement strategy for the upcoming United States Grand Prix this month.
Christian Horner has outlined Red Bull’s expectations for their new Formula 1 upgrade set to be introduced at the United States Grand Prix later this month.
A number of teams are set to unveil their last set of improvements at the Circuit of the Americas.
With a four-week interval separating the events in Singapore and the USA, it's an ideal opportunity for teams to enhance their performance before the concluding series of races.
Red Bull has fallen to the second position in the Formula 1 constructors' championship. Meanwhile, Max Verstappen's position as the leader in the drivers' standings is at risk after Lando Norris secured a commanding victory in Singapore.
During an appearance on the F1 Nation podcast, Horner disclosed that Red Bull's newest modification focuses on enhancing the RB20's drivability, aiming to boost the confidence of both drivers.
Horner stated that Austin is a logical time during the year for every team to introduce new developments.
Sources suggest that Ferrari has a significant update in the works. Mercedes and McLaren are reportedly also preparing to introduce new developments. Currently, our focus is on enhancing the insights we've gained since the Monza race. Our aim is to bring a car to the track that maintains a balanced performance across both its front and rear axles.
"It boosts the driver's confidence. It's a unique challenge. The first section of the track is extremely fast. Additionally, parts of the circuit have been resurfaced, adding another layer of complexity."
"It's a sprint weekend, which means you need to start strong right from the beginning. It's essential to consider all aspects involved. The entire team has been putting in a tremendous effort to grasp the problems, tackle them, and ideally implement solutions on the car for the Austin event."
Horner repeated his earlier remarks, emphasizing that Red Bull's problems trace back to 2023, despite their period of dominance at that time.
The individual, aged 50, admitted that Verstappen's exceptional skills hid certain issues that had come to light.
He stated that certain aerodynamic problems have emerged, and upon closer examination, they can be traced back to the year 2023.
"Max's extraordinary skill in maneuvering through challenges has allowed him to handle the situation better, while Checo has struggled significantly. This scenario is somewhat reminiscent of the Benetton team in the early '90s."
"Michael Schumacher had the unique skill to handle that car effectively, while others found it challenging to manage. Similarly, Max can adapt to a car with specific quirks and sensitivities. We began noticing indications of this during its construction at Monza, but when the downforce was removed, it became clear how pronounced the imbalance was between the front and rear axles."
"The figures we anticipated to observe during testing were vastly different from what our simulation tools had predicted."
