Red Bull’s 2024 F1 Car Overhaul: FIA Enforces Ride Height Rule Compliance
FIA prompts Red Bull to modify F1 car amid ride height debate
Following talks with the FIA, Red Bull has made adjustments to their 2024 F1 vehicle. Here’s the reason behind this development…
After discussions with the FIA, Red Bull has been required to modify their 2024 Formula 1 car.
Before the upcoming United States Grand Prix this weekend, Autosport revealed that one of the teams might be utilizing a potential loophole in the car's floor design.
As stated in the report, a team was employing a technique to adjust ride height while under parc ferme regulations.
There was speculation that the team in question possessed a cockpit mechanism capable of altering the height of the floor's front edge between the qualifying session and the race.
Modifications during parc ferme conditions are completely prohibited, and making such changes might provide a team with a significant edge.
A day later, it was revealed by the BBC that the team involved was Red Bull.
A representative from Red Bull told the BBC, "Indeed, [the device] is real, but it cannot be accessed when the car is completely put together and prepared for operation."
"During our extensive communication with the FIA, this issue was discussed, and we have settled on a plan for moving ahead."
On Wednesday, the FIA firmly declared that all devices of this nature were "completely banned."
As reported by Autosport, the FIA stated: "According to the rules, making any changes to the front bib clearance while in parc ferme conditions is absolutely forbidden."
"Although we haven't been informed of any team using a system like this, the FIA continues to stay alert in its ongoing efforts to improve the regulation of the sport."
"In line with this, we have made changes to our procedures to guarantee that altering the clearance of front bibs is not a simple task."
"In certain situations, this could include using a seal to give additional confirmation of adherence to standards."
Red Bull is optimistic that the modification to the RB20 won't negatively impact Max Verstappen's chances of winning the championship.
The Dutch driver holds a 52-point advantage over Lando Norris with six races remaining in the season.
