Pedro Acosta’s Quest for 0.7s: Navigating Crucial Problems and Unique Set-Ups in His Rookie MotoGP Season
Pedro Acosta: "We're facing some minor yet significant issues – I need to shave off 0.7 seconds."
"We're working with five distinct configurations. Essentially, no one is using the same set-up."
Pedro Acosta emphasizes that he is facing "significant issues" with his RC16 and noted that all KTM riders utilize distinct configurations.
Newcomer Acosta stunned competitors and analysts with his explosive beginning to the MotoGP season.
Heading into this weekend’s Indonesian MotoGP, his performance has declined, although he remains in sixth place in the rankings.
Brad Binder, the sole factory rider for KTM, holds the highest position among non-Ducati competitors, standing in fifth place.
Tech3 GASGAS rider Acosta expressed his satisfaction with the bike, noting that he only needs to shave off 0.7 seconds, but everything else is in good shape, during his time in Mandalika.
He stated that they had numerous minor issues, but emphasized that these issues were significant.
"In today's MotoGP, success hinges on paying attention to the smallest details."
“If you address two or three issues, your competitiveness will significantly improve. We have identified one such issue.”
However, Acosta does not represent all KTM riders.
Each rider, including Pol Espargaro who has a wildcard entry, sets up their bike uniquely, according to Acosta. This could make solving problems more complex.
"I'm considering my own situation," he mentioned. "We have five distinct arrangements. For the most part, everyone uses a different one."
"I am concentrating on my issues."
Acosta commented on his progress this year, stating, "I have a better grasp of the electronics now. It's the hardest aspect of MotoGP."
"It's beneficial because I am now more accurate and can get to the main point faster."
"Additionally, we've maintained a steady speed within the top five positions."
"Whether it's during P1, qualifying, or the actual race, our speed remains fairly consistent, which is positive."
"A key factor for a newcomer is maintaining consistency. Ensuring the bike remains unchanged and avoiding frequent adjustments is crucial."
He is optimistic about his prospects for this year, stating, "Our bike is well-balanced, which allows us to perform well in various conditions."
