Pedro Acosta Praises Aki Ajo’s Appointment: ‘No One More Prepared’ to Lead KTM to MotoGP Glory
Pedro Acosta shares his opinion on Aki Ajo’s selection for the KTM role: ‘There’s no one better suited’
Pedro Acosta evaluates the choice of KTM’s team leader
Pedro Acosta believes that there is no person better equipped than the unique Aki Ajo to lead KTM to a MotoGP world championship victory.
After weeks filled with rumors, KTM announced after the Indonesian Grand Prix that Francesco Guidotti will be resigning from his position as team manager at the conclusion of 2024.
Ajo, who has been closely linked with the Austrian brand as the main team in the Moto3 and Moto2 categories, will take over the position.
During his first season in Moto3 in 2021, Acosta claimed the championship title while racing with Ajo. He went on to secure the Moto2 championship in 2023, again under the guidance of the Finnish team. This year, Acosta made his debut in MotoGP, competing with Tech3 GASGAS
When questioned before the Japanese Grand Prix about reigniting his professional partnership with Ajo, Acosta expressed his great happiness regarding the matter.
"I believe that no one in this area is ready to take on the challenge of competing for the MotoGP world championship."
"He's definitely unique, but his personality has been very supportive to me in the past, and I truly appreciated his straightforwardness."
"This afternoon, I had a conversation with him about this matter, and I believe we will be a great team."
Following his runner-up position at the Indonesian Grand Prix last weekend, Acosta arrives in Motegi with the belief that KTM is edging ever nearer to securing another victory.
The RC16 has usually performed admirably on the stop-and-go Motegi track. Brad Binder secured a spot on the podium during the sprint race last year and achieved a second-place finish in the grand prix in 2022 at this venue.
This, along with the advancements Acosta believes KTM has achieved with the motorcycle, might enable him to come even nearer to winning compared to his performance in Indonesia.
Acosta mentioned that it typically provides significant assistance to their bike.
"Last season, we observed that Brad and Jack Miller performed competitively, even when the race conditions weren't particularly challenging."
Last season, Brad managed to secure a spot on the podium. This time around, we are optimistic that the upgrades we've implemented in the recent races, along with our current work approach, will allow us to get even closer than we did in Mandalika.
"Let's take a look at it. Over the past four or five races, we've made a lot of enhancements."
"In Mandalika, it was crucial for us to complete a race, as I ended up crashing in both races at Misano, despite our strong performance there."
"We needed to gather information over a lengthy race distance. We hope to keep up this progress as we're getting nearer to our goal."
