Miguel Oliveira Sidelined with Wrist Fracture After Highside in Indonesian MotoGP Practice
Miguel Oliveira to undergo treatment for fractured right wrist following hospital visit
Following a highside incident in FP1, Miguel Oliveira has been identified with a broken right wrist.
Miguel Oliveira has been transported to a nearby medical facility following a diagnosis that revealed a broken right wrist, which occurred during the initial practice session for the 2024 Indonesian MotoGP.
"Oliveira's Trackhouse team mentioned that he is scheduled for a 3D CT scan at the Mataram hospital to assess whether surgery is necessary."
Oliveira, who claimed victory at the first-ever Mandalika MotoGP in 2022, experienced a significant highside crash at the double left of Turns 3 and 4 amid a dusty and treacherous FP1 session.
The Portuguese racer was catapulted along the track and eventually stopped, seated upright against the external curb. Oliveira was subsequently laid on a stretcher by the track officials and transported to the Medical Centre.
Oliveira's injury will sideline him for the remainder of the weekend, casting uncertainty over his participation in the upcoming MotoGP in Japan.
While Oliveira was the sole competitor to suffer a fall in the top-tier race earlier today, numerous participants faced difficulties in the earlier Moto2 and Moto3 rounds, among them was Moto3 championship frontrunner David Alonso.
In FP1, Raul Fernandez's team member secured the 20th fastest time, while Maverick Vinales was the top performer for Aprilia, finishing in second place.
The practice session on Friday afternoon, determining which ten riders advance directly to Q2, kicks off at 3pm local time.
