Miguel Oliveira Fractures Wrist in Indonesian MotoGP FP1 Crash, Faces Potential Surgery
Miguel Oliveira sustains a fracture in his right wrist, now en route to a medical facility
Following a highside incident during FP1, Miguel Oliveira has been diagnosed with a right wrist fracture.
Miguel Oliveira is being transported to a nearby hospital following a diagnosis of 'a fracture in his right wrist' sustained during the first practice session for the 2024 Indonesian MotoGP.
The Trackhouse team reported that Oliveira is scheduled for a 3D CT scan at a hospital in Mataram to determine if surgery is necessary.
Oliveira, who claimed victory at the first-ever Mandalika MotoGP in 2022, experienced a significant highside crash at the Turn 3-4 double left corner midway through a dusty and slick FP1 session.
After being thrown onto the track, the Portuguese motorcyclist ended up sitting upright on the outer curb. Oliveira was subsequently put on a stretcher by the track officials and transported to the Medical Center.
Due to the fracture, Oliveira will likely be absent for the remainder of this weekend and is highly uncertain to participate in next weekend's Japanese MotoGP.
Even though Oliveira was the sole rider to fall during the top-tier class this morning, numerous other riders experienced difficulties in the earlier Moto2 and Moto3 sessions, such as Moto3 championship frontrunner David Alonso.
Raul Fernandez, a fellow team member, recorded the 20th fastest time in the first practice session, while Maverick Vinales secured second place as the top Aprilia rider.
The practice session on Friday afternoon, which determines the ten fastest riders who will automatically qualify for Q2, kicks off at 3 pm local time.
