McLaren Fined €5,000 for Pitlane Breach Amidst Baku Triumph
McLaren faces a €5,000 fine for a pitlane violation
Stewards noted that McLaren "caused a situation that could be dangerous".
McLaren received a €5,000 penalty due to a violation in the pitlane during the Azerbaijan Grand Prix in Formula 1.
The decision made by the stewards pertains to the entire team rather than to any individual driver.
A minor penalty was imposed due to the violation of Article 34.14 of the FIA Formula One Sporting Regulations.
"The officials spoke with the team spokesperson and examined the video footage," they reported.
It is common for team staff to head towards the Parc Fermé section before a race concludes. However, McLaren had their crew and gear in the pit lane while other teams were still making pit stops, which posed a potential safety hazard.
Participants are reminded that they can challenge specific rulings made by the Stewards, as per Article 15 of the FIA International Sporting Code and Chapter 4 of the FIA Judicial and Disciplinary Rules, provided they do so within the designated time frame.
The penalty is not expected to diminish the upbeat atmosphere within F1's top-performing team following the race in Baku.
Oscar Piastri secured his second victory at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix.
Lando Norris narrowed the gap in the drivers' championship to 59 points behind the leader, Max Verstappen. Norris passed Verstappen to secure a fourth-place finish.
McLaren has surpassed Red Bull and now leads the constructors' championship in Baku.
