Marko Questions Sauber’s Wisdom in Potentially Retaining Bottas for 2025 Season Amidst Rising Talent

Helmut Marko expresses bafflement over Sauber's decision to keep Valtteri Bottas

"The idea of Valtteri Bottas being given another opportunity truly baffles me even more," he stated.

Helmut Marko thinks it would be baffling if Sauber chooses to keep Valtteri Bottas on for the 2025 Formula 1 season.

Sauber has not yet disclosed who will join Nico Hulkenberg as his teammate for the upcoming season.

If Sauber is looking for a seasoned driver for the 2025 season, it is believed that Bottas is the leading candidate.

The Switzerland-based team also boasts several promising, up-and-coming talents.

McLaren's young driver, Gabriel Bortoleto, is rumored to be joining the team, and Franco Colapinto's impressive outings for Williams have made him a contender.

Mattia Binotto does not seem to be considering Zhou Guanyu, as the Chinese driver has had difficulty keeping up with Bottas' speed in 2024.

Marko, the leader of Red Bull's youth initiative, has shared his perspective on the Sauber/Audi scenario.

"Marko expressed to Sport.de his belief that Audi's vehicle won't stand a chance at victory next year."

"This signifies that neither Audi nor its drivers will face any stress."

"Comparing him to Nico Hulkenberg would be apt. Should his performance falter, there's always the option to find a replacement for 2026."

Sauber might also think about bringing Mick Schumacher on board as a possibility.

Schumacher was bypassed for the Alpine seat in favor of Jack Doohan, offering Audi the opportunity to add another German driver to their lineup.

Marko believes that if Schumacher doesn't secure the Sauber seat, his Formula 1 career will effectively come to an end.

"Marko mentioned that Schumacher's time in Formula 1 could effectively be finished if he fails to secure the Audi seat."
