Marc Marquez’s Epic Save on Ducati: A Glimpse of Old Magic at Indonesian MotoGP
Marc Marquez's Remark: "Ducati is the Top Choice"
"I've had minor recoveries on occasion, but it's been quite a while since I've managed a significant one."
During Friday's practice session for the Indonesian MotoGP, Marc Marquez demonstrated his past form by executing an impressive 65-degree front-end save.
The Spanish rider used his knee and elbow to right his Gresini bike, a maneuver he had often performed throughout his time with Repsol Honda.
Nevertheless, it was the initial occasion he had executed such a dramatic save while riding a Ducati.
Marquez smiled and said, “Ducati is the top choice, the best option available right now.”
"Occasionally, I've managed a minor save, but it's been quite a while since I've made a significant one."

Marquez explained, "When the traction isn't ideal, there's a higher likelihood of making this kind of recovery. For instance, at Misano, we experienced numerous crashes since the track had significantly more grip compared to here. This means that when the front tire slips, you can't recover it."
"You have more leeway here. However, as the track improves, the opportunity to make these kinds of saves will decrease."
Following a strong performance on the low-traction track at Aragon, Marquez was expected to excel on the dusty first day in Mandalika.
Nevertheless, he ended up in sixth and seventh positions during the practice runs.
Marquez expressed that while it felt great to make the save, he has mentioned before that such saves are entertaining for the audience but indicate that he isn't completely at ease and that there's room for improvement.
"I wanted to start off feeling positive, but I was uncertain because this track has always been challenging for me."
"I faced significant challenges during FP1. However, in FP2, both my performance and the bike's showed improvement. Despite this progress, I still need to enhance my performance in Sector 2 for tomorrow, as that's where I'm having the most difficulty.”
The eight-time world champion had anticipated that the reintroduction of the stiffer construction rear tire would allow him to replicate his blistering performance at the Red Bull Ring.
"This year, one issue I've encountered is the rear tire pushing towards the front," he explained. "As a result, I experience delayed turning and a late pick-up while exiting corners, which are all interconnected."
"At the Red Bull Ring, my performance improved steadily, but today I'm facing difficulties again, particularly with the new tire."
“When using the worn tire, I didn’t feel too bad, but with the new tire, I had a lot of difficulty during the time attack. The push from the rear to the front made it even harder to understand what was happening.”
Despite using a medium rear tyre that is already worn, it appears that Marquez still has tasks to complete.
This afternoon, Enea Bastianini and Jorge Martin both recorded mid-1 minute 30-second laps on worn medium tires, whereas Marquez achieved a low 1 minute 31.2-second lap and Francesco Bagnaia posted his best at 1 minute 31.4 seconds.
