2024 Indonesian MotoGP: Qualifying – LIVE!
Stay tuned for real-time updates from Saturday’s qualifying rounds and the Sprint race at the 2024 Indonesian MotoGP.
Just after the Emilia Romagna event last weekend, the ‘flyaway’ segment of the 2024 MotoGP World Championship begins with the Indonesian Grand Prix at Mandalika.
Although Jorge Martin was overtaken by Enea Bastianini on the final lap at Misano and missed out on a win, Francesco Bagnaia’s seventh failure to finish this season gave the Pramac rider a 24-point advantage in the championship standings over the current titleholder.
Bastianini enters the last six races of the season in third place in the world championship standings, trailing Martin by 59 points and leading his future teammate Marc Marquez, who will join in 2025, by just one
Martin clinched victory in the Mandalika Sprint race last year, momentarily securing the lead in the 2023 championship. However, an error while he was ahead in the grand prix allowed Bagnaia to regain the advantage.
Maverick Vinales from Aprilia and Fabio Quartararo from Yamaha stood alongside race victor Bagnaia on the podium at the 2023 Indonesian Grand Prix.
During Friday's practice session for the 2024 event, Bastianini clocked the fastest time, followed by Martin, Morbidelli, and Bagnaia, while Marc Marquez secured the seventh position on the first day.
The first qualifying session kicks off at 10:50am local time (3:50am BST), and the 13-lap Sprint race is scheduled to start at 3pm (8am BST).
Jorge Martin clinched the top spot in the Indonesian MotoGP qualifying, outpacing Marco Bezzecchi and Pedro Acosta by 0.535 seconds!
Marco Bezzecchi also experienced a fall… but he got back into the race and secured second place on his final lap!
In the meantime, Pedro Acosta, a newcomer for GASGAS, secured second position, trailing Martin by just half a second. Bagnaia and Bastianini followed in third and fourth place, respectively.
Marquez attempts to jump-start his motorcycle on the asphalt runoff area but ends up falling. Things go from bad to worse for him as he gazes upwards in exasperation while walking away.
Marquez is set to begin in the 12
Marc Marquez has had another accident!
This time at Turn 10, where he made a remarkable save on Friday.
The Gresini racer needs to aim for a comeback, or else he will begin the race in 12th position.
Marc Marquez is following closely behind Bagnaia.
The ranking for the last round is as follows: Martin in first, followed by Zarco, Bezzecchi, Quartararo, Acosta, di Giannantonio, Vinales, and Raul Fernandez.
Bagnaia, Morbidelli, Bastianini, and M. Marquez did not record any times.
The accidents followed by yellow flags have prevented Francesco Bagnaia, Franco Morbidelli, Bastianini, and Marquez from recording a lap time.
In the meantime, Marc Marquez has returned to the pits on his scooter and is now awaiting his backup motorcycle.
Another prominent competitor falls: Emilia Romagna victor and Friday's top performer Enea Bastianini crashes at Turn 16.
The reason for Marquez's intense effort to keep up with Martin has become evident. The Pramac Ducati rider shattered the lap record on his initial fast lap and then surpassed his own time on the subsequent lap.
Martin leads by a significant margin of 0.854 seconds ahead of Johann Zarco, who is in second place.
Marc Marquez trails Jorge Martin on the initial lap but then falls at Turn 15.
Marquez's motorcycle is broken, and the Gresini racer is currently sprinting to get a lift back to the garage.

The second qualifying session kicks off as the riders immediately make their way out of the pit lane.
Every rider will opt for the soft rear tire, though opinions differ when it comes to choosing between the hard and soft front tires.
In other news, Johann Zarco and Raul Fernandez, who is the sole rider for Trackhouse due to Miguel Oliveira's wrist injury, will now compete with the next ten riders in the Qualifying 2 session for the pole position.
Enea Bastianini, Jorge Martin, Franco Morbidelli, Francesco Bagnaia, Marco Bezzecchi, Fabio Quartararo, Marc Marquez, Pedro Acosta, Fabio Di Giannantonio, Maverick Viñales
Binder, typically one of the most relaxed riders on the track, is visibly upset. He pulls into the KTM garage and uses his foot to press the rear brake lever several times, signaling the issue to his team of mechanics.
Binder is set to begin the race from the 19th position.
The first qualifying session has concluded.
Johann Zarco and Raul Fernandez topped the session and secured their places in the top ten from Friday afternoon, advancing to Qualifying 2.
This is Jack Appleyard providing an update from the pit lane, where Binder experienced a problem with his rear brake, causing him to go off the track.
Entering the final minute of the first qualifying session.
Joan Mir is closely following Alex Marquez, but the Gresini team rider loses control of his front tire and crashes at a high velocity.
Luckily, Marquez gets up and leaves the scene, prompting yellow flags to be shown.
Aleix Espargaro suffered a crash and limped away from a fall at Turn 1. This marks his third accident of the weekend, eliminating his opportunity to fight for a top 2 position.
Raul Fernandez, Johann Zarco, and Aleix Espargaro are launching an offensive!
Zarco and Fernandez have claimed the two qualifying spots with only three minutes remaining.
In the meantime, Binder, who is currently in 9th place, veers off the track, which spells trouble for the KTM team.
During a mid-session break, the competition is tight at the front: Alex Marquez is leading, with Alex Rins trailing by 0.050 seconds, Raul Fernandez by 0.062 seconds, Johann Zarco by 0.122 seconds, and Jack Miller by 0.142 seconds.
After five minutes, Alex Marquez and Alex Rins are occupying the top two transfer spots.
Line-up for the first qualifying session:
Johann Zarco, Luca Marini, Alex Rins, Brad Binder, Aleix Espargaro, Jack Miller, Takaaki Nakagami, Raul Fernandez, Joan Mir, Augusto Fernandez, and Alex Marquez.
In the meantime, Franco Morbidelli finished the session as the fastest rider for Pramac Ducati.
The first qualifying session, which includes riders who did not make it into the top ten on Friday afternoon such as Johann Zarco, Alex Rins, Aleix Espargaro, Brad Binder, and Jack Miller, is now set to commence.
Pedro Acosta, who finished in 10th place, and Takaaki Nakagami, who ended up in 16th, were the only competitors to use the medium rear tire throughout the entire session.
