Legends Collide: John McGuinness and Valentino Rossi Share High-Speed Moments at Silverstone
John McGuinness on Valentino Rossi: “His riding is fluid and appears easy”
Valentino Rossi remains "extremely quick and very fast"
Motorcycle racing icons John McGuinness and Valentino Rossi, hailing from different racing series, were united at the recent Monster Energy Legends Day.
A legendary Isle of Man TT racer and a famous MotoGP rider were at Silverstone, accompanied by several renowned former and present riders.
McGuinness humorously told TNT Sports, "An Italian racer zoomed by me on the back-straight."
"A person named Valentino Rossi caught my attention. I figured, 'he's quite speedy, I'll follow his lead.'"
"He led me around the track, resulting in the quickest lap I've ever completed at Silverstone."
"I clamped my teeth onto the screen, doing my best to hold on!"
"I was more captivated by observing him. He is the finest globally."
Sylvain Guintoli commented, "John McGuinness achieved his quickest lap ever at Silverstone while following Rossi! That's incredible."
Neil Hodgson, who was present at Silverstone, commented: "Incredible! He was thrilled."
"He enters the garage and places the bike on the stand in a traditional manner."
John, being himself, remarked, "That's the quickest I've ever gone around this track, following Valentino. He's smooth! It seems so easy for him."
“I exclaimed, ‘Yes, that’s Valentino’s hallmark!’ From the very beginning, he has made it seem effortless.”
Sylvain Guintoli commented on Valentino Rossi, who is currently 45 years old, saying, "He is still actively riding. We have participated in test sessions with BMW, and Valentino has been present."
"There was one in Portimao. He was on the track with us and still shows impressive speed and quickness."
Suzi Perry mentioned, "He's involved with car activities, but he told me, 'There's nothing better than riding a bike.'"
Guintoli responded by saying, "There's no feeling comparable to getting back on a speedy bike."
The enduring bond between Rossi and McGuinness, marked by mutual respect, is one that has defied expectations for years.
In 2021, Rossi mentioned, "I am in regular communication with John."
Rossi was inquired about whether he would have enjoyed competing against McGuinness at the Isle of Man TT.
"It's situated near the scenic roads of Tavullia," he responded.
"We practiced racing scooters on regular streets, not on a designated track, much like the TT race."
"I don't want to compete against him in the TT! He’s way too quick!"
