Lando Norris Dominates in British GP Practice as Verstappen Trails in Seventh
Lando Norris secures the lead in the second practice session at the British Grand Prix, with Max Verstappen placing seventh
Lando Norris maintained McLaren's superiority by finishing as the quickest in Friday's practice session at Silverstone.
Lando Norris maintained his impressive performance into the second practice session, leading the pack for McLaren at the F1 British Grand Prix weekend.
Norris, heading into his local race eager to move past his intense crash with Red Bull's Max Verstappen at the Austrian Grand Prix, outpaced his McLaren colleague Lando Norris by three-tenths in the second free practice session (FP2).
In the second free practice session, it was an unusual sight to see Sergio Perez as the top performer from Red Bull, though he was 0.434 seconds slower than Norris. Close on his heels, just 0.007 seconds behind, came a surprising performance from Nico Hulkenberg in the Haas, securing fourth place. Meanwhile, Charles Leclerc of Ferrari ended up in sixth, trailing by six tenths of a second.
Lewis Hamilton led the Mercedes team with the sixth quickest time, trailing Norris' leading pace by 0.653 seconds. The seven-time world champion managed to finish ahead of Max Verstappen, who faced unexpected difficulties, finishing in seventh place.
The driver from the Netherlands concluded the session almost 0.7 seconds behind Norris, despite using the identical soft tire compound. He was observed veering off course following a significant instability while navigating through the high-speed Chapel turn during one of his laps.
Nonetheless, part of the reason behind Verstappen's disadvantage can be attributed to the changing conditions of the track, as he recorded his fastest lap in the earlier stages of the second practice session, unlike his main competitors.
Carlos Sainz of Ferrari secured the eighth position, followed by Aston Martin's Lance Stroll and Mercedes' George Russell, who completed the top 10.
Unexpected showers disrupted extended sessions and barred any improvements in speed during the final phases of the second practice.
