Jorge Martin Warned of Aprilia’s ‘DNA’ Challenge and Ducati’s Advantage Ahead of Team Switch
Jorge Martin highlighted a vulnerability within Aprilia's core characteristics
Jorge Martin gave insights into the Achilles' heel of the Aprilia
Jorge Martin has been informed that he needs to adapt to a unique 'DNA' as he transitions to Aprilia.
Pramac competitor Martin could potentially move the #1 plate from Ducati over to Aprilia in the upcoming season.
He didn't secure a promotion with the factory Ducati team, so he opted to join their competitors from Italy.
However, he's set to face a significant change.
Present Aprilia competitor Maverick Vinales drew a comparison, stating, "[Ducati] navigates the turns in fewer meters.
"One feature of our bicycle is that it requires greater smoothness."
"They possess greater acuity. When navigating a corner that curves back on itself, a complete 180 degrees, their impact is notable."
"It seems like the deficiency is in speed, but actually, the shortfall occurs in the distance approaching the turn. That's where our vulnerability lies."
Neil Hodgson of TNT Sports commented, "Well put. He has a panoramic perspective, having spent an entire race competing against Ducatis. This poses a challenge for those riding Aprilias."
At Ducati, you have the ability to direct and accelerate more effectively – allowing for a more aggressive approach in corners, which can lead to increased speed and time savings.
"Surprisingly, the Ducati handles corners effectively. This aspect was traditionally considered the Ducati's weakest link."
"At the crucial bend of the corner, it makes a sharper turn, then you accelerate away."
"[Vinales] needs to adopt wider arcs, preventing him from braking too abruptly.
You need to navigate around, only to find yourself obstructed by a Ducati positioned right at the curve's center, which happens to be marginally quicker.
"He's contending with being on the tyre's edge more often on the Aprilia."
Sylvain Guintoli responded, "It's inherent to the motorcycle's nature. This happens on all circuits.
"In certain circuits, it's beneficial. The Aprilia handles extended turns with ease."
"The acceleration and braking? The Ducati outperforms in this aspect."
Martin, who is racing on the GP24 Ducati this season, dropped to second place in the MotoGP standings last weekend at the Sachsenring after he crashed while leading the grand prix.
He trails the current frontrunner and defending titleholder, Pecco Bagnaia, by 10 points.
