Jorge Martin compensates for his earlier Sprint error by securing a dominant win from start to finish in the 2024 Indonesian MotoGP held at Mandalika.
However, the Pramac Ducati competitor encountered unexpected challenges from newcomer Pedro Acosta during the central phases and was at risk of being overtaken by Enea Bastianini.
The Italian rider made an impressive push to nearly catch up to Acosta but fell during a crash at Turn 1, with 7 laps remaining.
Bastianini, Marco Bezzecchi, and the current champion, Francesco Bagnaia, found themselves stuck behind Martin's teammate, Franco Morbidelli, for a significant portion of the race.
With just five laps remaining, Bagnaia overtook Morbidelli to secure the third position. This move allowed Martin, who expressed his joy by breaking his screen, to extend his lead in the championship standings to 21 points.
Bastianini became the ninth competitor to not finish, joining a lengthy list that also featured Marc Marquez, whose Gresini bike encountered a fiery mechanical problem.
Martin surged forward from the start and, on this occasion, successfully navigated through Turn 16 during the first lap.
Trailing behind, Acosta overtook Bastianini to secure the second position and, despite not keeping pace with Martin in the initial ten laps, experienced a revival in the middle of the race as he distanced himself from the battle for third place.
Beginning from the second row, Sprint champion Bagnaia experienced fluctuating wheelies right from the onset and quickly found himself in sixth place.
Vinales achieved a solitary sixth-place finish for Aprilia, outpacing Yamaha's Quartararo, while Zarco met his goal of landing a top ten spot for Honda.
Bezzecchi, along with his VR46 teammate di Giannantonio, showcased a unique livery inspired by the red-and-white colors of the Indonesian flag.
Miguel Oliveira was missing due to a broken right wrist, which occurred during a highside on Friday morning, resulting from a failure in the traction control system.
Updated regulations for tyre pressure in 2024 dictate that racers are required to maintain a minimum front tyre pressure of 1.8 bar, a decrease from the previous 1.88 bar, for at least 60% of a Grand Prix race distance, an increase from the former requirement of 50%, or for 30% of a Sprint race.
If a driver doesn't achieve the required minimum in a Grand Prix, they face a penalty of 16 seconds added to their race time after the race concludes. For a Sprint or shorter race, the penalty is reduced to 8 seconds.
The MotoGP event in Motegi, Japan, kicks off on Friday.
