Hurricane Helene Disrupts Quartz Production: Major Chip Makers TSMC and Samsung Monitor Supply Chain Impact
TSMC, Samsung, and other significant semiconductor manufacturers are keeping a close eye on the quartz supply after hurricane-induced closures at mines. Hurricane Helene put a stop to operations at two American mines responsible for producing a large portion of the world's high-purity quartz, an essential material in semiconductor production.
The future effects on the worldwide semiconductor industry are still uncertain, as these companies are skilled at hoarding crucial parts. Moreover, the activities in North Carolina are anticipated to recommence at some point.
"GlobalWafers assured that their providers of crucibles have plenty of stock to meet their demands," according to an official statement. "The supply network is robust enough to handle a short-term disturbance in the supply of raw materials. Sufficient stock levels are kept consistently, and we do not foresee any hindrances to our capability of delivering confirmed orders."
