Honor Dethrones Samsung to Dominate Western Europe’s Foldable Smartphone Market: A First for the Huawei Spin-off
Honor surpasses Samsung to become the leader in Western Europe's foldable smartphone sector. For the first time, the company, which branched out from Huawei, has taken the leading position in Western Europe, the second biggest market for foldable handsets following China.
Honor, a smartphone brand from China, has outperformed Samsung Electronics to claim the top spot as the leading manufacturer of foldable handsets in Western Europe, based on information from the industry advisory firm, Counterpoint Research.
For the first time, Honor – a subsidiary of Huawei Technologies – has emerged as the top player in the second quarter. After China, Western Europe is the second biggest market for foldable smartphones. It's a highly competitive space with key competitors like Motorola, Oppo, OnePlus, and Google, as pointed out in a recent report by Counterpoint.
Honor, the company that introduced its widely liked Magic V2, a book-style device, to the global market last September, experienced a 455% increase in its worldwide foldable shipments during the second quarter. This was the most significant annual increase reported among all brands, according to the report.
Worldwide, Honor's local competitor Huawei retains its position as the top brand for foldable phones for the second quarter running, largely due to robust sales in China, according to a separate report from Counterpoint.
