Ford Issues Warning to EV Owners: Stop Using Tesla Supercharger Adapters Due to Potential Damage Risk
Ford is advising a number of its electric vehicle owners to discontinue the use of the NACS adapters originally supplied for the purpose of charging their vehicles at Tesla's Supercharger locations.
Last year, Ford took the lead in the automotive sector by embracing the Tesla charging connector, and in February, they revealed plans to distribute complimentary adapters to their clients by the end of March. However, the car manufacturer recently alerted certain customers through a notice, cautioning them against using these adapters because of a possible concern that might lead to slower charging rates or could even harm the vehicle's charging socket.

The problem pertains to a certain group of NACS adapters, and Ford is offering free replacements as part of a customer service initiative instead of conducting a widespread recall, according to InsideEVs.
Ford has recognized a possible problem with a group of adapters that were distributed earlier this year. They noted that prolonged use could lead to slower charging rates, as stated in a communication to InsideEVs. Ford advises against using the specified adapter.

The car manufacturer intends to start dispatching substitute adapters in the week starting October 28 to ensure customers can verify their delivery details in time. Individual buyers are advised to review their FordPass account for the shipping address and make any changes by October 24. No steps need to be taken if the details are accurate. Meanwhile, fleet clients will receive a notification and will be prompted to validate their shipping information with their National Account Manager.
According to a recent update on Friday by InsideEVs, General Motors and Rivian seem to be unaffected by the problems plaguing Tesla's NACS adapters. A Rivian representative assured that their customers can keep using the NACS adapters without any concerns for now. Although numerous electric vehicle manufacturers are transitioning to the NACS port, only Ford, GM, and Rivian have actually distributed these adapters to date.
