### “Fernando Alonso Addresses Adrian Newey Rumours Amid Aston Martin’s Struggles: ‘It’s Not Just One Man’s Job
Fernando Alonso addresses speculation about an upcoming announcement involving Adrian Newey this week
“I don’t believe in making excuses,” says Fernando Alonso amid Aston Martin’s challenges
Fernando Alonso asserts that resolving Aston Martin's issues requires more than a single individual, amid ongoing speculation about Adrian Newey's involvement.
Rumors circulating in the Monza paddock during the F1 Italian Grand Prix hinted that Aston Martin might reveal the acquisition of Newey in the coming days.
Adrian Newey, who currently serves as Red Bull's chief technology officer, is set to leave his position early next year and will then be eligible to join a competing Formula 1 team.
Rumors suggesting that Aston Martin could be his next team have intensified lately, while speculation about a potential move to Ferrari has diminished.
Alonso mentioned at Monza that there are still just rumors and that it isn't solely one person's responsibility to resolve the issues.
"It's more about our current situation and our ongoing production. It's about identifying what is progressing well and what isn't, so we can better prepare for 2025."
If Newey is available next year, he could manage the 2026 car for a different team, possibly providing them with a significant edge when the new engine regulations are introduced.
Aston Martin has poured significant funds into a new facility in Silverstone and extended Alonso's contract through 2026. Additionally, they will collaborate with Honda to develop an engine for the upcoming regulations.
However, up to this point, outcomes have been rather disappointing.
Aston Martin currently holds the fifth position in the constructors' championship standings. At the Italian Grand Prix, Fernando Alonso secured the 11th spot, while his teammate Lance Stroll came in 19th.
The year 2025 could serve as a preparatory period for Aston Martin, setting the stage for a more aggressive campaign
“There’s nothing we can do about it,” Alonso responded. “We are reliant on our team, and both Lance and I are doing our utmost each weekend.”
"During a particularly inspired weekend, such as this one for me, I am certain it will remain entirely anonymous."
"This year, Lance and I have consistently been very close in our races, often finishing just two or three seconds apart, either ahead or behind each other. Today was one of those weekends where I performed slightly better. I felt good about the car and pushed it to its limits, perhaps even beyond, which resulted in finishing in P11."
"Yes, it's disappointing. We have to be patient and keep in mind that the main goal is 2026."
"However, I believe that as a team, we can come to terms with not competing for a top-four position. Those teams are elite and significantly ahead of us."
"However, being outperformed by Williams, Haas, and RB means we must set higher standards for ourselves. Improvement is necessary."
Regarding the car for the upcoming year, Alonso commented, "I believe we still have enough time to make adjustments."
"McLaren advanced from the bottom to a podium finish in just four months. This serves as a clear example."
"Additionally, Mercedes began the season on equal footing with us. In the first four races, we were on par with them, and they have already secured three victories this year. Therefore, I'm not inclined to make excuses."
It is improbable that Aston Martin will see any progress in the upcoming races.
Alonso expressed his frustration, saying that the current state of the car is inadequate and won't improve until it gets an upgrade.
"Performance in Monza was lacking. It was also insufficient in Zandvoort, Spa, and Hungary."
"I believe that significant changes in Baku, Singapore, or Austin are unlikely unless we introduce new components."
"That's the strategy. The team understands the circumstances and is working tirelessly. Yes, we remain united and continue to strive forward. Last weekend, we secured one point. Today, we almost got two points, and that will be our ongoing challenge."
