Commencement: Plenary Session from October 7 to 10
Distribute this information:
During the start of the plenary session held in Strasbourg from October 7 to 10, President Metsola commemorated the anniversary of the terrorist attacks in Israel, which occurred one year ago.
Reflecting on the dreadful events of that infamous day, President Metsola stated that no reason could ever validate the widespread killings, sexual assaults, abductions, and brutality that took place a year ago. Since those tragic incidents, only a small number have been reunited with their families. "This assembly will persist in our efforts to assist in returning them all home," she affirmed.
President Metsola remarked that the attacks on October 7 initiated a chain of violence and destruction, resulting in the loss of thousands of lives in Gaza and causing unrest throughout the area. She emphasized the importance of honoring those who have died or been abducted. The President affirmed that the Parliament will persistently demand the swift release of the hostages still held, firmly advocate for a ceasefire, and continue to strive for reducing tensions. She concluded by stressing the commitment to achieving a genuine, respectful, and lasting peace that will endure over time.
Members of the European Parliament observed a moment of silence to honor the memory of all the innocent individuals who have died.
